How do I build a ship?
Hello!

I am new to this game and have plsyed the tutorial/campaign already. However, it couldn't make me learn and understand how to actually build a ship from scratch.

I have watched some video tutorials but it is hard to follow step by step. It is similiar to baking a cake for me: I need a formula on paper, a cooking receipt, a checklist of the components I need. So here I am to ask you following 3 questions about building my space ship:

1. I have started in creative mode. As usual, you do not spawn on a planet. I had to learn the hard way that to simply build a platform in space and placing components on there to construct the ship is a big mistake. The platform and my ship started floating trough, well, space once I accidentally hit them with my jetpack. So: How do I manage to build my ship without it floating away? Is there a place where this is possible?

2. What do I need for a quite small, one man ship? Which parts do I need? How do I connect them to have them running properly? How do I put weapons on it? I need a list to go through.

3. How do I not make my ship look like a floating block? Are there specific wing blocks? 'cause I have been using light armor blocks and they did not look smooth on my ship.

I appreciate every help here!

Each ship needs...

Thrust in every direction
Cockpit or control chair
Power
Gyro

Thats the basic recupie for a ship in space engineers.

In survival the things you need are...

Oxygen generator
Refinery
Assembler
Med bay

Med bays are your respwn points the rest are to keep you alive, refine parts and ore.

They can all be linked up with conveyors so they can transfer tings between them.

The bases of weapon turrets need to be connected to the conveyer system to automaticly pull ammo.

Connectors are how you dock small ships and transfer cargo. At least one on the outside of the ship is good. It also has to connect to your conveyor system.

Hope some of that helps :):spacewrench:

1. the "campaign" is only a tutorial for the movementcontrol if you can even clal it that, nothing other.

2. if you want to start on a planet you need to take the star system or one of the easy starts or the single habitable planet then you spawn in survival and creative on a planet.
and the more mass you ship has, with or without load, the more thrust you need to acellerate and decellerate it in the same time.

3. Karmaterrorᵁᴷ has already given a quite decend list of what you need for a ship, just a small adding from me:
- on planets make sur you have enough thrust to wheight up the ship and the load of the ship against the gravity. you need there mostly thrust downwards and nerly nothign thrust upwards-
- if you build in space mount first soem sort of "emergencybrake" (a single thruste for every direction, a gyro and soem power to let it work) together on your constructionplatform or your ship to avoid it from floatign away too far.

4. i have shown for the construction of a ship on the different startoptions where ships where avaiable and have dissect these ships.

5. for designing a ship just show through the different types of blocks, there are rounded blocks, tetra, full, different angled . . . quite an amount already without any sort of mod. just press g and the menu should open where you can find all blocks.

Before beginning work on a ship, especially a small grid ship, I put down an "anchor" of sorts. I start by placing a square light armor block. I then add small thrusters to each side of the block for a toal of six, one in each direction. Weld the thrusters. I then add a reactor. Weld the reactor and add a very small amount of uranium. Then I add a gyroscope. Weld the gyroscope. Then I add a line of light armor blocks. The end of that line is where I begin construction of whatever ship I had in mind. If I bump the ship while working on it, the "anchor" will keep the ship from moving or rotating off into oblivion.

you forgot the control module a controlseat, flightseat, cockpit or remotecontrol so that the dampeners work.

If you haven't yet, check out this tutorial on building, it's pretty good:
