You can detect damage using the "Automatic LCDs 2" and emplying the "damage" command.
here is the petition about it where you can comment and add your vote to help :
https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/please-add-a-remove-lightning-damage-option
Keep in mind the Devs told the community they will choose from the most wanted on the Portal if they decied to change or add more to the game.

Important notes :
the weather is set on "Risk X3" at the moment and should not be so we will have a hotfix next week that will fix that.

You may use this new Mod recently shared by a kind SE Modder :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2143322540
A dedicated item should be present in vanilla instead of using something that requires building a gatling gun...
I'm already using "Automatic LCDs 2" but it happened on a disconnected grid so i never saw that

Downloading the "No Lightning Damage" mod while waiting for a proper fix
Thank you for the advices

Build a couple of random blocks around your base as you will drastically decrease the chance of your important stuff getting hit.
I may build a new station over there ;)
It is set on "Risk X3" in that update that should not be and the SE Devs will surely push a Hotfix next week.
Lightning goes on Decoy blocks but not all the time :

One got me right after the above lightning :

+ A lot are participating and reported directly to the SE Programmers so it should be better in a near future.
If you see what Aragath says here - i think people are maybe confusing decoy the concept with Decoy the block.....
So each lightning strike targets a grid, and then a block on that grid - so if you put half a dozen unconnected armour blocks around your base, each lighting strike is then 6 times less likely to hit a block on your base, because it has another 6 grids to choose from.
Or do what i do and hide underground like a coward :-)
It's not against you, Drizzt. Just, this seems like a louzy solution the developers consider. They shouldn't have made it so destructive. Have the (solid) armorblocks conduct it to ground harmlessly like any normal lightnig protection. Or maybe have secondary branches to adjacent blocks fry the computer components only disabling functions.
garbage collection can be modified so maybe that could help - but from what i understand weather is a work in progress and the devs are accepting feedback to modify it - i believe Dan mentioned something about an update next week
but also weather is moddable - and so it's possible the frequency of lighting can be modified - if i get a chance i will look at the guide written by the original mod author (who worked with Keen to implement it in game)
but now i should probably sleep (am sure i have been up for 2 days endlessly admiring ships people have built - oh yeah and surviving on mars - must have eaten food at some point....)
:-)
