Stuck on "waiting for server to respond" when joining friend's server.
I try to join my friend's server (I live a few kilometres from him) but Space Engineers keeps stuck on "waiting for server to respond" whenever I try join.

At the "waiting for server to respond" message is when a server is instructing your client to download all the mods that the server uses. You can see this by opening up the steam interface and going to the download view. If the server uses a lot of mods this can take awhile for you to get a copy of all of them.

The confusing part is the server is not INTELLIGENT about this sync phase. And if it takes too long the server will disconnect you even though you are productively downloading the mods. The good news is that your client still knows the list of mods (the manifest) and will continue downloading them via steam. If you wait until they finish downloading before trying to reconnect the next connection will get past this "waiting to respond" phase quickly.

Hi, share more clues about the world you play in and the distance between you and your friend.

I have noticed that server admin using Mods have similar problems and they have to restart the server to fix.

It may be a bad PC, too... more clues and testing needed so I recommend to try the other community servers to see how it goes and maybe go to Keen Discord to ask the Veteran server admins as to know how it goes for them and if they have similar problems with solutions.

There is A lot of admins helping the community over there :selike:

My friend was using a few mods, so I think that's why. I know it can't be my PC as I have a lot of beefy components inside of it such as a GTX 1070 GPU.
I am sure it was due to the many mods. Thank you for replying!

In case you haven't tried, I had this same issue but with the bone stock game for me as host, and my son trying to join. I sent him a "join game" invite and he had the same issue as you with the waiting message.

Instead it took another try, except this time I had my son right click my name from Steam Friends list, and click Join game. That seems to work. Good luck!

I'm currently having this issue after wiping our server. It was never a problem before and its happening while even loading my own single player saves. I've tried everything and it seems to be completely random so to when it does and doesn't work.
