Who or what is "Clang"?
I have been hearing this from the community, and I still don't know what who or what Clang is.

What is Clang, and how do you define "Clang"?

To summon lord clang one must make a sacrifice of pistons and rotors...

our great lord clang can delete planets and summon demons... in short if a sub grid is to close to the main grid (about 1 small block gap i think) it forces them apart and as its normaly a ship or rover that makes you spin and it can make you spin FAST also can be used to accelerate to or passed top speed or rip holes in the worlds (pretty sure that was patched) we sacrafice rovers and ships to our lord clang in exchange for use of such an amazing world :3 all hail clang

(kinda like satan i guess the anthropomorphism of chaose and evil in space engineers) there are those who harness our dark lords power for destructive machines and epic engines

It's basicly a bug with the physics engine. The community has given it the name "Clang" for the loud and continuous clanging sounds the bug causes. Kind of like how the Kerbal Space Program community gave the ship destroying physics bug the name "Kraken" after the mythical sea monster.

It's **Lord** Clang to you....

No offense to "Lord" Clang and it's woreshipers, but I'm not refering to it's title all day and would rather just call it by it's name.

our lord clang is no bug its the great over seer of space engineers keeping us from breaking physics... its a compromise rather then a bug really. the alternative would be frequent crashes or blocks clipping threw each other

Clang is when subgrids, or multiple grids, or grids interlocked on voxels displaying a spasming of movement because the grids want to push away from something they are attached to. The most violent cases will result in explosions as the spasming gets so intense that the velocity causes an impact of epic proportions. Mild cases of clang result in blocks "pushing" away from each other and generally producing some unwanted movement in a direction. Its like sudden torque on an object just because that object is pushing itself.

Clang is the law, the justice and the decider. Clang is the judge, jury, executioner AND the the cause of death. Clang is fickle and if you so much as tickle Clangs nose the resulting sneeze could destroy EVERYTHING.

Maybe Clang will slow down a piston.

Maybe Clang will hurl a rotor head through the center of your station.

Maybe Clang will fry your computer.

Maybe Clang...

Hell, my latest scrape with Clang resulted in my entire ship disappearing, my landing pad warped and me just floating there in nothing but the cockpit. How? I'm pretty sure Clang doesn't know how to pronounce VTOL and it pissed'em off! :steamfacepalm:

KSP has something called the Kraken. It is Kerbal Space Program's physics god.

SE Has the great and almighty; Lord CLANG! A GOD of engineering.
Clang decides whether or not your creation is suitable enough to exist. If your creation is not suitable for existence, he/she/it may choose to smite you/your creation/your world.

*I believe that is an apt description of whom Clang is.

As for what, see above. If you place the game into a state where collision physics come into play, by either accident or purposely, then clang is the name of the phenomena and sound that accompanies the games attempt to simulate destruction and damage.

Because Clang is a far more known entity then "Papa Kane". And the community worships it a hell of a lot more then a single person (No offense).

You would say that sure, but Clang exists throughout the game and depending of your actions regardless if it's accidental or on purpose, it'll interact with a object and use aggressive force to destroy it or suck it in hell, not to mention it does not like it when you shouldn't be messing around with the physics engine in-game.

As for you since you're a real entity, you have the ability of free will and maybe experinced the encounters of Clang. That does not mean however, that Clang is highly aware of what you're and everyone else is doing and will punish you should you chose to come into a state where collision physics come into play. Even the experinced would avoid pissing off Clang and will try not to mess with the physics engine.
