Grinding not returning all the parts
Over 1500 hours.

Started a new game. Solar system Earth type.
Built a platform/wind farm + Battery
(I know grinding a battery doesn't return E-cells only scrap metal)

Built a drill / rotor/ piston gizmo to mine dirt quickly.
Time to move the drill. Grind it down.
Careful not to drop any or grind more than my inventory will hold.
'Inventory Full'
Put parts in Cargo box. Grind some more.
Missing large tubes. To rebuild I have to make 10 more large tubes.

If I am going to go into space and build a ship/station I always build all the parts I will need before grinding them down and packing them up for transport.

Anyone else having problems with ingredients not being returned?

D.

Recently had one where I was moving a large reactor.
I ended up around 40 reactor components short.

Curious thing.
On the same construction I started with a rotor / conveyer/ drill and that worked fine.
I added a piston and noticed that the refinery was silent.
The drill was collecting rock but not using the conveyer system to the refinery.
The only thing I changed was removing the drill / adding the piston / replacing the drill.
This arrangement has worked on previous games.

It is very easy to not completely build the piston top part. It looks built even though it isn't, can't tell you how many times I've had that happen to me. Just to clarify, you are using an advanced rotor? you must be if your refinery is processing stone.

Both the piston top part and the rotor top part are the first thing I checked. I thought 'Maybe it's damaged or not complete.. better check that.'
Having checked the obvious (1500+ hours) I came here.

It's odd because I only have a couple of mods and it's the same set up I have used for several games. Strange that it should be happening now. If you get my gist.

thats intended to prevent infinit energy
u get a battery partly charged on building it
to stop grinding the battery down and get a new one that is again partly charged they turn the one part of the battery into scrap metal(forgot the name of it)

funny thing is
from hydrogen engines u get the same part back

Oh right.. Thanks for the information. It doesn't help and has nothing to do with what the thread is about but thanks for contributing.

did u grind down the heads throm the pistons/rotors first?
there is a lot of stuff in it too
if u just grind down the rotors/pistons u find the heads on the ground/somewhere else

Seeing as it seems you went to the effort of looking at my OP again I will explain again just for you.

My start up routine.
Build a platform with power / storage/ the ability to refine ore and create parts.
Build a rotor on the bottom of the cargo box with a conveyer attached to that.
Build a drill at 90 degrees to the rotor and clear out dirt and get more resources.
Remove the drill add a piston and then replace the drill on the end of the piston.
The idea being to extend the range of the drill and drill out a large arc getting lots of iron nickel and silicon.
It was during this process of removing the drill that I noticed that all the parts were not returned and after replacing the drill on the end of the piston was when I noticed that the rock from the drill was not going through the piston and Advanced rotor to the storage box and refinery.
After many hours of play and not experiencing this particular problem in my last few playthroughs I thought I should drop a note in here to see if anyone else had experienced similar problems.
