Autopilot grayed out
I posted another thread earlier about how to not have to keep my finger on the W key to go on a long journey. Two suggestions were made:

1. Set up thruster overrides (which I did, and that works fine)
2. Use a remote and autopilot

I have an antenna, I have a remote control, and my cockpit is checked "Main". But the button for Autopilot is grayed out. Nothing I do seems to change that. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I could not find an answer in my searching. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, have you added GPS coords to the remote block?

Also all blocks must be set to "ME" in grid terminal.

Yes, and yes. :)

I play a single game; they have always been set to me.

Ok, delete the remote control block and add a new one.

I did. Still grayed out.

Share your save with me and I will go try.

Edit

How to publish a world save :

1 - Select your save.

2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.

3 - Skip the "Exploration" Tag cause that got rules to follow and click the OK button.

4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

5 - Share the Workshop item link here.

Sure. Give me a bit to get back down to the planet where I have more resources. Stand by....

you have to set your course to be one way. By default its on patrol which requires multiple gps markers.

Ahhh. Thanks! That worked.

Uh, thanks all, but I think I'll stick with the overrides.

I lifted off from base, and as soon as I turned on the autopilot the ship jerked straight up, and began a laborious and failing climb towards space, which is where my destination was. Apparently the remote is not imbued with any kind of perception or intelligence to know where my ships most powerful vertical thrust is coming from. Which is not from the forward thrusters.

Thanks anyway for the help!

Testing done on your problem "Autopilot grayed out" =

It was my first post the answer : "Add GPS coord"

Solution = Must add coord into Waypoints box :

___

I aslo found 2 problems :

1 - Not enough power when going forward >> It use more than 100% so the power shows RED in right corner :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2092499670
2 - The remote control block was in a wrong position, the green dot on the remote is the front of the ship and must be position properly.

Like this, look at the new red one I have added, yours is pointing up the wrong way :

Thanks, Dan, but actually DragoF1sh provided the solution (above). I had only 1 GPS coord entered, and the remote was set to "Patrol". Once I switched it to "One Way" the Autopilot became available. You did not find a GPS coord set in the published file that I sent you because I had deleted then reinstalled the Remote Control per your suggestion, and had not added a GPS coord back in. :)

However, your problem #2 that you mentioned might explain the ship jerking straight up once I did get it working. As for problem #1, the forward thrusters have plenty of power when combined with the vertical thrusters, and the ship trajectory is not set at too steep a climb. I did not build my ship to take off like a rocket from a launch pad using forward thrusters, but to use the huge vertical thrusters as the main lift force, which also double as the main braking force when coming back down with a load of ore. This method works very well.

I had assumed the Remote Control would know which engines to use for which direction, and know which angle of ascent and descent to use accordingly; apparently it's not that smart. :)

But thanks for your help!

UPDATE: I just saw your problem 1 pic. You had the batts still in Recharge state, instead of Auto, so they can help the reactor provide sufficient power. That's why it was red-lining.
