put it under a car close to the ground and drive around works fine(doing the same on a ship and scanning asteroids might be a bit risky)

The problem is that I started in space ahah. So the point is that I only find ore when it's not under stone. Maybe it's enough on a planet but for asteroid mining it's almost useless.
Today what I'm doing is going out with my space suit and my hand-drill and then bring my ship when I found what I needed.
But I have to explore several asteroids before finding even Iron with this method...
Maybe I'll go for a mod

The antenna does not increase the range of the ore detector. It only allows for the ore detector signals to be seen when you are not in a seat on the grid that has the ore detector.
