Poor server performance.
I have a dedicated server set up on my Threadripper 1950x with 32 gigs of RAM, and yesterday (after the update), I noticed that I CONSTANTLY get latency errors and performance errors. The server is here in my apartment, so my actual internet speed shouldn't make much of a difference, but I am on a 1gig fiber connection with well over 980mbps up and down. I'm running the vanilla game with all server options set to the defaults, and NO mods other than the DLC's in the Deluxe bundle (all cosmetic as far as I know). I have 1 "base" which consists of a grid with a refinery, an assembler, a couple storage containers and a conveyor system that extends down in to a tunnel underground with a driller machine I built a while back for drilling tunnels for ore. Other than that, I have 2 other rovers built - both of which are small. Basically I have a new game with very few things completed, and it runs like complete ass now. I've dropped my graphics settings on my gaming machine (a Ryzen 3950x 32 gigs of ram, 2080 ti) to medium, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering my machine is a beastly over-kill (both my gaming machine AND my server machine). So what gives? If this is how the vanilla game runs WITHOUT mods, then how the hell am I seeing all these crazy ass servers on youtube with huge bases, ships, and even stuff in space? I'll also point out, that I didn't see any of these issues (other than the occasional rubber banding) until the update yesterday (3-19).

Btw, I'm running a dedicated server because I like to play with a friend. Is it better to not use their dedicated server exe? Should I use something else (steamcmd, etc.), or just run the game on my local machine for him to connect to while I'm playing like a normal multiplayer game?

if you find out what EXE to use please post it , i would like to know a better way too

when i tried SE Dedi Server ... it worked fine the first start then after restart i look inside TaskManager and there would be another SE Dedi Server running some how the first server is still being used so now i have 2 Dedi servers running in task manager ..after another restart another Dedi Server is listed in my TaskManager , after that i gave up .. so any other EXE would be great ... SE Dedi server starts fine and never closes fully

slowly your 32 GB of ram is ate by all those SE EXE running in the back ground
i had 64 GB ram in my Server and i play arma 3 on this server just fine
i tried closing Arma 3 server just to see if it was it lagging out but thats when i found 3 SE .EXE in the taskmanager

Having extreme problems, too. No spike in CPU nor RAM on the server, but the dedicated is slow and sluggish, refineries not pulling items etc.. The sim speed is stable on 1, must be related to the update?

most people forget to do this step
Firewall settings: Make sure to set the firewall on your server computer to allow incoming UDP traffic on the listen port.

That is totaly unrelated to server performance. Won't fix the lag. If you haven't allowed it through the firewall you won't be able to connect at all :)

yah i just looked at the space engineers website that i posted theres lots of useful things to read .. maybe you can find the problem in there ?
i tried a server on version 1.163 it was horible and never tried again
since then theres alot more info on getting a server running ..i might try again to see what you guys are experincing

Couple tips for you .. Setting the spawn distence to 12k apart will improve performance . When players are moving in and out of a 3k radius of each other it requires a mass of data to be sent between the client and server causing massive lag .. if your players are too close with their bases it will create a hex patten across a map loading bases in and out constantly creating huge lag . thats one of the biggest issues

There's something weird going on though, even downgrading to 1.193 (and deleting the caches etc) it's still like this, it was playable yesterday, today it's not. So don't know if there's some netcode pushed that broke stuff

Servers running better this patch than last . This is on a vanilla average of 30players round the clock on a lower power rig than the one mentioned here .

The thing is, last night I was playing by myself on my server, no other players connected, and it was lagging and telling me there were latency / performance issues. We also use the same "base", as we built it together, and we're never more than a few hundred meters from each other.

I keep getting "scene is too complex" errors. My game literally has the most basic of ♥♥♥♥ in it. This game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke.

might wanna check ur server settings . also this game has a consistent RAM leak issue so check its not to do with that
