Why can't i paint?

It was working just fine just as i started playing but now it isn't working at all. I'm trying to repaint blocks by pushing middle mouse button but it isn't doing anything.

What did i do wrong?

I'm kind of a newbie, but I've found that I can't paint anything unless I'm holding a block in my hand. Can be any kind of block, but it won't work unless I put the block over the block I want to paint and click.

I've encountered that, too. To simplify things, my habit is to keep a light armor block on my hotbar, and select that whenever I want to paint something.

I've tried but i still can't paint it no matter what

You can only paint what you started to build.

if someone had paced down 10 blocks as ground floor and you add another one you still would not be able to paint only the guy who started building the grid
even if youre in the same faction.

Have you confirmed that your middle mouse button works in other games / software?
If nothing you try is working then it might be worth checking that the thing isn't simply broken.

A lot of software makes little-to-no use of the middle mouse button, so if you don't have anything else to test it out with, here's a handy testing tool...

Just click the little red boxes with the appropriate button to test. If it works, the number in the box will increase each time you click it.

Looks like others experiencing paint issues as well right now. Still worth testing your mouse just to be sure but if it's not that then there's good info in this thread...

Push ` and whatever number row multiple times and it starts to work

Hello everyone, I have kind of the same problem. I cant repaint using mid mouse buton. I have confirmed that mid mouse button DO work in other games. I made shure that I DO own the block im trying to paint. I CAN change the skin of the block, but not the colour. Im shure I tested all the things recomended and think I might have klicked something to make it stop working since it happend mid game after I by mistake painted my whole ship mossy skined. If anyone know how to fix this plz help. To add YES in a new save it all works perfectly.

Fixed! How I did: Made shure that the game worked by doing a repair, since I used quite a few mods. Entered the world and placed a NEW block on a NEW grid, as in mid space. Welded it up and painted it, I screamed of happiness. Then, as by magic, I could repaint anything else.

you need to own all the systems on a grid to be able to paint it, this is problematic with factions but easily can be worked with and around.

Hi, this never happened to me and I recommed to create a new discussion if you still have problem cause this one is solved and getting obsolete.

The game is not the same at all now so would be kind to report on the Portal where all Testers report if you still have this problem =

I know where is the problem. When you press P and go to choose color and skin you have to fill in the check marks above color and skin. It is kinda hard to notice but It was both off for me so might be for you too.
