So Europa, the Moon or Titan
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1008149006322621663/608FB9763229ADF431BCE7ABB27B388F6FE09670/

After starting a vanilla star system survival game, I chose to start on Europa. Heh, no rocks to feed the survival unit and now all unknown signal probes use batteries instead of the small reactors with 0.3kg of uranium inside. Constructing components for a basic refinery and assembler became an issue and it looked like it was going to be a dead end game.

Restarting on the Moon seemed ok, to hilly though and resources are scattered. Since there's no atmosphere, cant use the wind turbines but it did have ice and rocks which was nice.

Restarting on Titan I landed near the frozen lakes and found great veins of Iron, Cobalt, Nickle, Silver, Silicon, and Platinum! Haven't found Gold yet but I'm sure its here with the Silver being present.

Anyways, at 0.25G's and turning off the dampeners, you can surf the area with minimal hydrogen use and scout for hours.

Yes for whatever reason they no longer have stone on Europa. This happened in playtest 3 and had to be on purpose. None of us can figure out why though.

It does have regular ores though.

Europa is actually my favourite place to start, exactly because there is no stone on the moon itself--you have to immediately throw yourself into peril by making multiple trips to and from asteroids nearby just to really get started.

Dismantling the Unknown Signals for parts also helps you set up a platform with a Basic Refinery and Wind Turbine (with Girders built after converting enough Stone from asteroids to safely build it).

From there, you're good--just find a spot with Iron, Cobalt and Nickel and you're set to expand into a proper base.

Well that’s true, you can easily go to the asteroid with the jet pack. Plenty of hydrogen lol.

Good call.

Hehe did not consider jetpacking it to an asteroid :steamfacepalm:

Due to the new research system tho starting on europa is a horrible idea. You NEED stone to start

I love Europa too but stones rarer than uranium on there but with the little gravity it shouldn’t be a problem getting to space what I recommend is getting stone to make enough components for a small base and you can continue on Europa

no you don't just did it in 45 mins got to basics. I only took one trip to an asteroid to get Stone and allow me to build Girders. This is the progression..

First thing you need to build is Small platform (don't build out the armor blocks just place them)
Build a Wind turbine.
Build a Basic refinery.

So the two above things are the tricky part where do you get the resources? Well silly you can get most of them from your lander.. thats right!! In fact if you plan well you can get it all from the lander. I actually made a trip to an asteroid with my jet pack..

As for research.. your ship has all the starting tech you need.. Grind down the landing gear to hack point.. rebuild... Now you can build everything you need.

So once you get the basic refinery.. Again.. Easy. You no longer need stone.. Just search for Iron, Nickle, and Silicon.. Game over.. your in basics once you find them all.

Build your Basic Assembler.. Transfer your Survival Kit to the platform.. Transfer you o2 gen..
All done..

Have a nice day.

I love working on speed builds to basics.. Its my thing.. Been doing it since Play test 1.
