Hydrogen Engine Not Working
I built a Hydrogen Engine on the Lunar map to cover my power needs when the sun was down. However, it does not show up on the Inventory list as being able to hold anything, it will not take ice or Hydrogen, either directly or from a Hydrogen tank. I know the conveyors are linked properly.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, I reloaded the world and moved the Hydrogen Engine to sit on top of the Hydrogen Generator instead of piping it in with conveyor tubes and now it works fine. Possibly an issue with conveyors or tubes? I also had a Hydrogen Tank in between and took that out as well.

Working fine now with the direct connection.

Same with Rebmes, mine only worked when I turned it off and on again from the terminal.

Can confirm this: Same thing happened to me.

Hydrogen engine powered, connected to conveyors, full hydrogen tank to draw from.

Didn't want to work. Turning it off and then on again fixed the issue.

I found that when building the Generator (Engine) you have to turn on and off your ship, or toggle the block on/off for it to refresh, because if you think about it, its actually realistic; Putting fuel in a engine doesnt make it start you actually have to start it after the fuel is in, and if you place it, the fuel is not in yet, so it doesnt start.

(Short: After placing the engine, turn on and off the block, that always works for me)

Just here to say that every single one I have built has needed to be turned Off/On to start working just to add weight to this being the answer.

When i have this problem, i save and quit the game. At the start, it work's

I had the same problem one time, turning the engine off and on again seems to fix this, yeah.

IDK it might need an oil change :steammocking:

Seriously though turn the engine off and back on to reset its state. If this doesn't work you might have a hydrogen problem along the pipes. Check in order:

Engine on/off
Hydrogen supply (ice in o2 gen Stockpile set to OFF on all tanks)
Conveyor systems (all doors connect)
Hack Engine

If you follow these steps you should be able to resolve the issue. If the issue persists then you might consider making a bug report. However your issue will most likely be resolved by following the above checklist.

I left one running to cosume all the ice in my miner to charge its batteries and the stations batteries it was connected to.

This broke the batteries(they produced like 100w. on off etc didtn help) on my miner while the generator keept turning while not producing an ypower. had to reload.

just remotly related but could save some one some grey hair.

they hydrogen engine is buggy, sometimes you have to turn it off and back on again, sometimes you have to turn off the whole base and back on again, sometimes you have to log off and back on again. after having to "jump start" it several times i stopped using them altogether. they're an ice hog anyway, not even worth using imo

Well the two days i played with a friend again i found them "helpfuil". It just feels good when your miner sustains itself by just drilling ice for 10 sec and then has power for 10m. But this wasnt on realistic setttings. Besides that its poor by KSW that we can't control a drill on 2 axis while driving so that we could mine with cars in a nice way, they generator is nicely tuned to make planet mining feel ok for first time.

SE -now with planets lol.

from what i've gathered from others, most folks use them as a backup generator to charge batteries. like i said though, i don't really use them. they're buggy ice hogs so i don't even stress myself with them.

Hmm. Any tubing/conveyors need power, so wonder if that's why they sometimes don't work unless directly connected to o2 gen/ hydrogen tank.

Course, if you've put hydrogen directly in the engine it should work anyway.

Never bothering with this pointless addition to the game, they could have done 100 other things instead.

There are 2 Things normally fixing this for me:
1. Restart the Engine a Couple of times.
2. Place a new Conveyer Tube so that it refreshes what is connected with what.

Just had this happen to me on a server with a small grid. I was making a projector stand (landing gear, battery, projector control panel, decided I wanted to charge the battery and since I'm inside a roid solar not an option. Built O2 Gen, Hydro Tank that worked fine, could not get the small grid engine going. Finally ended up building a cockpit and using the Y key (grid on/off) and then I was able to get them to work. Hope this helps someone!

for me turning it off and on fixed it... I'd wager it's an engineer/technician joke
