the engins look nicer and the fuel cells cant be any more efficiant than the engins anyway because they are meant to be a stepping stone to reactors and the engins already violate thermo dynamics in that they can power the process of converting water to hydrogen for fuel and o2 and still have excess power left over to fuel other things :p
The only thing stopping them from being over unity is that you cant recover the water exhaust :p
