Learning to Survive: Combat - Simply Impossible
As the title says, that little task is simply impossible to do legit. The first drone of course has to be armed with rockets, taking out my fighter with 1 hit. Somehow I managed to get close and use the grinder to disable it. Then the dear little tutorial wants me to fight 2 (freaking two) gatling turrets in this state. Of course they 1 hit you too. Respawning (achievement's gone already), I was delighted at first that I get to fly the other ship I was building. Trying to outplay the turrets, using the 800m range against them, but alas, my own weapons are restricted to 800m, too. Of course the turrets shred my seconds ship, then me, to pieces, again. Respawn again, no ship this time, fly about 10 kms or restart.
So, anyone got through this without the help of external help? Is this part even possible with the materials provided?

I've taken a long break from the game, can you elaborate on this?

No it dosnt, the Dev where thinking that is was to op and removed the damage of floating objects.

... well i mean i would just build a few grav gens to counter the attack, its space ENGINEERS for a reason.

I avoid the drone attacks just by 'unpredictable' course changes (ie straffing in different directions). His shots tend to only be accurate if you continue moving in the same direction for too long. If you can aim well while doing this you really only need to shoot the gatling for a few seconds to disable him - he is as squishy as you are. Doing it at range is probably easiest to avoid his fire.

As for the station, I found it only fired if I get closer than about 630m or so. Sniping from 650-700m was entirely possible with no risk. It may take a minute or two with that range accuracy but doable. Note I think the station actually had 4 turrets and only 2 of them were marked for the mission. You might be able to snipe them all - in my case I only sniped the marked two, lost my ship to the other 2 when i approached, but was able to jetpack in and take advantage of their blind spots to deconstruct them with the hand tool.

It’s possible you just have to outsmart the game.

Build a base 10 kilometers away from the Wave base. Build it good with defense turrets, missile turrets. Set yourself up well with enough resources to last. Missiles , NATO rounds. Build inside an asteroid if you want. With guns and missiles on outside covered with armor.

When done, go to the wave base. When they come for you run back to your defense base. Enjoy the next 100 rounds of AI bots smashing into your asteroid.

The bots are targeting you not the base, and they go threw anything to get you.

Someone told me, that the only thing that matters on the wave base is the beacon. But as long as you are not at that base they won’t target it.

Make use of remote drones. 2 interior turrets, one for targeting missiles, the other for shooting at the enemy. Add an additional rocket pod and optional gatling for your aimed attacks. Make use of glass around the camera so that you are less likely to lose the camera from a few bits of stray fire. Having the camera protected or slightly recessed inside heavy armor blocks is also not a bad idea. Cover your antenna, batteries, and remote unit with heavy armor. This will make it so that it will take more dedicated fire to render the drone dead or cut your control. Within this protected space, having a warhead or two that you can arm isn't as horrible of an idea as it sounds. In the event that you lose too many thrusters or feel things are getting too rough, arm the warheads and fly into the enemy. The drone will likely die, but the enemy will be crippled from the collision and subsequent explosion. If you have a saved blueprint, you can setup a welding bay to just keep cranking them out as you use them.

If you're looking to get more hands on, a good design relies on making sure the cockpit is protected as well as having decoys planted in armored areas that are non-essential. Redundancies for thrust, power are suggested. Having an interior turret set for shooting at missiles is also suggested. Missiles do aoe damage and are good for hitting thrusters and crippling the enemy ship or taking out turrets since you don't need to be as precise. When you feel the fight is dire, line up a collision course, disable dampener, and abandon ship.
