base location ideas
im considering building a permanent base, but am unsure on where to go, Im floating in space with a solid amount of stuff and resources gps marked for mining in asteroids.
shall i go back to earth (any cool locations or biomes to explore?) or to an alien planet I can see, (see two already, one moss green, the other bluish) or shall i go to the moon or mars? or some deep space nine type of base? what you guys think? pro's con's?

Well here´s another "can you tell me what i might like ?" question :)
Hard to answer for all those places have their own pros and cons. Depending on your playstyle and your preferrences all may be fitting. Or none.

On my server i run a big station in earth orbit, along with several smaller stations here and there. If you DO want to settle in a specific area and just start playing, the only advice i can give you would be that you look out for a place with enough ressources.

What do you want...

A functional and practical base? Space makes that far easier.

Something over the top, impressive looking and with more work involved? I would recommend earthlike and be prepared to put a lot of work into it (would recommend finding a uranium deposit or two before you land)

It depends on how you want to play.
If you want to add to the challenge, one of the planets might be a good bet, with alien planets being tougher iirc.
If you want to fight other ships, the moon tends to have a fair number of hostile bases and ships.
For me, I'm normally the guy quietly minding his own business in some forsaken corner of the middle of nowhere, so asteroid mining is my thing, using a mobile base in a very nomadic playstyle.
If you want some kind of central station, Deep Space 9 style, I'd suggest setting up in an area that's relatively rich in resources, combining your gps marked asteroid idea with your DS9 base idea.

if you are compensating for the size, space might be better due to no gravity and slopes

if you go for the looks, nothing is as boring as almost empty, dead space

if you have to ask this to others, you have spent too much time in SE already

Well, thats the thing, Im trying to discover new ways of playing the game through having to deal with the enviroment, I have done the nomad style, hanging around the given bases in the different starts, and made some smaller space bases in the older versions of the game.(pre-oxygen/hydrogen)
I was thinking of doing something with a huge base, but with something to look at (large glass view deck, :)

Its an odd question to ask; and very much dependent on your play style. I play with no asteroids in my worlds, which means resources gathering is solely relegated to planetary bodies only, barring random encounters. As such to make sure I get more freedom of resources I have an remote controlled, anti trash removal ship that passes through checkpoints around every single planet once every so many in game weeks. This way I can get platinum and uranium on the moon (uranium no longer spawns on larger planets), free oxygen from Earthlike, and Ice by the MT from Europalike. Unfortunately the ship takes literally forever to travel everywhere (no jump drive), so I has a massive power storage requirement, and travel time between planets can take the better part of an actual day or two.

Thanks everyone, I made up my mind, I will make a large orbital base next to an alien planet, with a lander setup if i feel like it.
