Collector instead of Connector tips
Hello all,

I've found a workaround for ships not getting emptied of ore.
I made a small funnel with armored blocks.
Then I placed a collector in the middle.
Below the collector is a conveyor with a junction.

On the junction I placed 2 sorters, one for Ore and Ice, and one EXCEPT Ore and Ice.
To the one for Ore and Ice I connected a large cargo container and then my refineries and H2 O2 generator.

Now, when coming back with a full load of ore, I hover over the funnel with the connector on the ship, then set the connector on the ship to "select all" AND "throw out" to on.
This way, the connector on the ship drops out all the ore and the collector in the funnel collects it and stores it in the large cargo container for further processing.

A much better solution than the connector, which only pull ore when the refineries ask for it.
I only use the connector to charge my ship now.

just in case -
6 small atmospheric engines have 6*83.2=499.2kN for 6*600=3600kW
1 large atmospheric engine has 502.5kN for 2400 kW
So you should basically avoid designing something with more than 3 small engines in one direction as starting with 4 large one has serious advantages. And since you don't need to balance CoM and engines in SE, that's not even a placement issue. Attach them anywhere you can, it will still fly fine.

Dude, thanks, I did not know that, I'm just starting.
I can never fit both big and small blocks/items on my ship though. Just small ones OR big ones.

How do I add both small and big blocks to one ship then?

You're mixing grid size up with engine size. There are small and large thrusters for both small and large grids. Mouse scroll wheel when you have thrusters selected to build.

Haha, don't worry. If you've only just got the game there will be many things you will just have to stumble across to find out.

I'll mention it in passing just in case you have not noticed. Anything you add to your tool bar with a + sign in the icon has variations you can cycle through with the mouse wheel.

Have you set the sorter to 'Drain All' ? It'll suck whatever it is set to out of your ship into the container.

Have you set the sorter to 'Drain All' ? It'll suck whatever it is set to out of your ship into the container.

Yeah it does, and then nothing. The items stay in the connector and when it's full it stops.
Since it can only take like 3k it's kinda pointless.

Also, it sucks items from the connected cargo container sometimes. Which is the opposite of what I want.

Also you might find the Achilles heel of your collector design is that even Heavy Armour has it's limits and will be damaged by falling objects, resulting in destruction of the collector and any other underlying components.

? That#s what Sorters are there for, got a full System on my Space Station, sorting Basic ore in one Are, Uranium and another and Ice back to life Support Systems. Works perfectly.
