How to increase strength on a rotor?
I am building a folding drill arm. I have lateral swing working.. and it will rotate one arm. But even on max torque the second arm when i add drills will not fold back up. Any way to bypass the torque limits or strengthen them?

Rotors can only suppurt so much weight. Thats why on large mechs you see the piston opperated joints.

If you are in experimental mode i believe you have access to "unsafe rotor settings" that arent avalible in stable. Could try that if your not already on exp :)

I am on experiomental branch. not sure what you mean on piston joints. I have idea but not sure its what you mean.

Its when you add a piston and have the rotor unpowered. The piston moving the joint can handle the extra weight.

If you check out black armours berserk fury build its all he uses because its so heavy :)

ohh ok ill give it a look. Thank you

Ok i checked it out and its how i was thinking to use it. BUT I can not get it to connect. I place rotor on one side and rotor part on other "removeing one that comes with full rotor" and I see the attach button but no matter how close i get them they wont attach. and trying to seperate them is inpossible for me as the rotorss wont shift enough to connect the the second rotor on my piston :-(

Not sure if this is the method Black Armour used but i went for making all the parts then slowly connecting the last bit with merge blocks...

Ready to connect up..

Merge blocks joined then removed after bridging the gap with blocks...

PS its best to turn the merge blocks off and leave the rotors powered. Then move the merge blocks into place with the rotors, turning them and using dissplacement value to get the merges as lined up as humanly possible. Then once its ready and looking good, unpoer the rotors and switch on the merge blocks.

If you dont line it up well it will create a phantom force and the whole creation may start to spin uncontrolably. Spend a while lining stuff up properly and it should have minimal effect. Probbably best to experiment with this in creative with block damage off before you apply it in survival :)

i place a rotor then a light armor block. on that at 90degrees i place a piston or 2. Then on end of piston i place a light armor block then a rotor but i remove the rotor part. Then i place rotor part on block im attaching to and link them.

I use first rotor to alling them up. Will work fine but after a bit it will always glitch or break and stop workintg. Had a 2x3 set working fine. then it decided it couldnt lift half the weight it used to. And now when expand the pitons the Rotor its connected tio spins instead O.o

Thank you for the videos

EDIT- For got to mention im on the special version. "Friend uses it so thats why im useing that mode rather then generic to build this. As had planed on useing it for our base and mineing."

sTILL CANT GET IT TO WORK PROPERLY FOR MORE THEN FEW MINS IF THAT. "oops aps sorry" I think imma give up. I cant be doing it wroung after so many tries and days of work and research. To me it seems they are broken. rotors and pistons seem to not want to do more then simply go up and down. If any other mothion involved they break. I have zero idea how guy could make beserk fury. I used exact same set up to make my arm drill.

I can have 64 "made extra just incase of damage while driveing" Can hold litteral 2,870,000KG But 12 cant move a simply arm that is maybe... 20,000KG.

So seems my plans on a nasa arm setup is not going to happen :-( I am just so confused..... ill upload the BP again to show what im trying to do if i can find one. I got annoyed and deleted most :-(

First idea worked for while... then decided it didnt want to extend arm out anymore...
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1459781831

Next one was my next idea to decrease leverage on rotor so it could move it easier... and failed.
EDIT- the one that folded up more seems to be deleted. but if know how the arm on nasa shuttle is and folds up 3 times.... Thats similiar to what i had.

it had one arm like one above. Then once it unfolded another rotor set would unfold a nother part to the side. once that was unfolder a last part with actuall drill and few more pistons unfolded. Whe it worked i was able to get easy 15-175 meters deep. And was quickly reaching 200m depth. But then rotors broke and pistons would completely extend or retract evenly or fully.
