How to Reduce Fuel Consumption?
I'm fairly new to this game and haven't played it a lot, so I don't have a lot of experience with ships. So I wanted to make a mining ship, but the fuel consumption rate is really high. How do I reduce that?

Which fuel? Uranium or electricity?

Either way, tried to reduce your fuel consumption?

Since you're also new i guess you're using hydrogen on an earthlike planet?
You'll always require alot of fuel depending on your weight with this gravity, unless you drill some ice on the way and have h2/o2 generators onboard go for short distances or rovers.

If you're flying with atmos.. keep adding batteries until you're satisfied... get your base to supply enough energy and it's fine.

Hydrogen is just way faster to refuel compared to recharging batteries in the end...

Edit: You can always change block inventory to increase hydrogen tanks up to x10 i think...

I am using electricity

Huh, electricity... more and more batteries until you have enough charge.
Just make sure they're all filled before starting.

You can group all batteries in one ship together and while inside use "G" to drag this group into your hotbat..Set it to "Recharge On/Off"

Whenever you dock use this button to give them more possible input to charge.
Just make sure your base can supply enough, batteries need alot depending on the amount.

Also don't forget to use the same button again after undocking so they switch back to auto... or you have no power.

Yeah that definitely helps! Thanks!

have a forward thruster group and disable it when u fly saves ice/hydrogen/energy
in space u should disable dampers while flying and activate it while mining

I've been using the Viable Hydrogen mod but I think it's outdated so I went in and updated the files and it works fine now. Much like the name implies, it makes hydrogen less of a pain to use and more appealing as a mid-tier option. I don't use any cargo modifiers so everything is pretty much vanilla there and I can get around pretty good with just a full tank of H2.

I can share the files with you or even reupload my updated version of the mod, if you'd like.

You want to specifically make a group for all the thrusters labeled "Backwards." Set up a group for them (I call it "Cruse Control - (Name of ship)") and turn that off when you're flying. You can leave the inertial dampers on when you do this - you NEED to leave that on in an atmosphere or the ship will stop trying to stay at the same altitude.

I also use the "cruise control" group in space rather than switching off Inertial Damping. You coast forward without spending fuel / energy, but using the cruise control means that you can change direction just by moving the crosshairs. The thrusters will fire just enough to cancel sideways motion relative to what you're pointing at, which (to me) results in a lot more natural "space flight" feeling movement than switching the dampers back on and correcting course while your ship does its best to come to a dead stop each time. Just remember to switch the Cruise Control thrusters back on when you actually *DO* want to stop.
