Ship Inexplicably Stuck in Big Empty Hole - Suggestions Welcome (Single Player)
Hey guys,

So I made a mining ship that I thought was pretty clever, and it's backfired for reasons I can't understand. As you might be able to see in the picture (below), it's a small ship with 4 downward facing drills. I tried to mine by descending straight down, and all was well for the first few feet, but after that the ship acted as if it was being pulled downward by a strong force, and I couldn't ascend away with my thrusters. I immediately turned off the drills, but somehow the ship now acts as if it's jammed into a corridor or something. (see video for better context.)

I tried digging it out with my hand drill, but every time I'd dig out a section around it, the ship would simply fall over like it was an inert mass, so no matter how much space i dug around it, it always settled into the bottom part of the hole. Trying to use the thrusters to move in any direction is almost useless as it continues to act as if it's wedged tight despite there being nothing but open space in the direction I'm trying to move. I thought it might be something to do with the landing gear, so I disabled both blocks from the control panel, but it didn't change anything.

It's really frustrating since I spent most of the night gathering the materials and designing the ship, and I'm pretty sure the only way to free it is to scrap the whole thing and try again. If anybody's run into this before and has any kind of workaround, I'd be forever grateful.

Video of Problem (When in cockpit, I'm trying every direction including ascend/descend):

Edit: Here's a picture of the same situation 5 mins after the video, I cleared out more around it and removed the solar panels. Still not able to move:

Might be a tiny bit of voxel mass left over from drilling and its stuck on that... but it did move so not sure.

You could Save a copy of the world or enable admin tools to quickly copy pate it above ground, if it still falls possible overload, if all is well it was probs stuck on something invisible or inside it :)

Just sounds like you need to dump your cargo, including what is in the drills themselves. Its too heavy. Not enough thrust with the added weight.

That was absolutely it, it was the weight. I had no idea the game took things like that into account, but now it all makes sense. Guess it's back to the drawing board on mining machines...

Thanks for your help guys :)

How many thrusters small or large did you have pointing sideways? Seems like only 2 small. That's barely enough in the attitude you are in.

Mining ships should have a conveyor sorter and an ejector dedicated to removing whatever you aren't mining. Then you can just pause a bit while the heavy stuff gets dumped. During flight testing, always learn what the limits of the ship design is as far as weight goes then get used to watching the tilt horizon indicator and the total weight.

My "drop driller" miner has a long stalk on the top to prevent roll over in a deep vertical tunnel. This has saved my bacon many times.

Also, do you know about right click / left click mining? Once your drills are on, go into the "G" menu while sitting in the cockpit and find the "tools" category. Add the drills that appear there to your hot bar. Now when you drill use right mouse click to empty space and not pick anything up, and left mouse click to drill and pick up the material.
