You want it faster then 1 Hour?
the only problem is u need some time for the conveyor net so u have to carry the sand by hand
u could go god mode and drop some blueprints(a miner for example)
@HMIMH I would probably get a speed mod which allows you to go faster than 100m/s. Another mod would be better ore detectors which scan ores much further than the classic ones. Also putting your base on huge wheels makes it much more effective.
I can't talk too much about this tho since I focus on modding and I play survival only in multiplayer where I only raid with friends other bases so we dont have to do all of this mining stuff.
I aim for that but yeah, takes some time
So just use the basic refinery as storage for gravel in case you intend to keep it for later.
However with only the survival kit you can not always empty your inventory and have to wait a bit but better than using up more mining time if you ask me.
Agree, but even if you have conveyor system setup, the next problem is storage, unless you have found cobalt early on, the drill will soon be full, so be careful to turn off the drill and wait until it's emtpy again.
You can also build a piston, an advanced rotor and add a small grid head, now you can add a small grid drill, which will give you enough to build a large grid drill instead of handmining for the large grid drill first.
This should get you going pretty fast.
Very funny...one hour ! Man, you must have this game sorted. I'm fairly new and it took me nearly an hour to find my way back out of the first mine I dug ....sort of buried myself !!
This is golden information. I didn't realise that the survival kit gave a better return on stone than the basic refinery. I imagined it to be the other way round but I never actually checked....just thought that the basic refinery was high up the production chain so must be more efficient.
Thanks for the info.

Step 2, build 2 wind turbines on a couple of unfinished blocks above the ground (4 high atleast, 8 or 10 high would be ideal), atleast 8 blocks away from you platform.
Step 3, make sure everything is connect via unfinished armor blocks, so they transfer power.
Step 4, grab the one hydrogen bottle you have, fly up into air with your jetpack and look around for dark spots (or faint yellow spot if your in the snow).
Step 5, Fill up you basic refinery with basic ores like iron/cobalt/nickle/silicon that you found below said dark spots.
Step 6, Never have to refine stone again untill you get uranium and need a reactor.
Step 7, Profit ???
Step 8, Watch splitsie's tutorials on youtube :P
The trick is to make the most out of the stone you have, and move on as fast as you can, the basic assembler allows you to make bottles so you can travel further to find said ores/dark spots. The refinery allows you to not worry about stone and focus on ores instead that have a bigger yield.
Although some people seem to have a really hard time finding ores, that is basiclly the way to reduce the grind asap. And generally speaking if you can spot "dark spots"/"faint spots" what ever you want to call them, seriously increases the speed at witch your progress during the early game.
And keep an eye on your drop pods power, slap a solar panel on it if its getting low so you can refill your bottles untill you can build a H2/O2 generator on your platform of unfinished armor blocks.
With 5x settings the first 3 steps are really easy to get past, and wont require tons of stone, the rest is a matter of practice.
