Copy/paste structures onto each other
Copy/paste structures onto each other - is this possible in creative?

Example:
Lets say I'm building a large ship and I construct a housing out of various blocks for a thruster. I then want to replicate the design several more times on the ship. Is there a way to select those blocks that make up the housing and copy paste them in other places?

Is it also possible to build something entirely seperate to your ship and then copy/paste on to it?

If the answer is no then is there a mod for this?

Thanks

Apologies for three topics - a steam error (16?) on my client has created multiples. Please mod delete the other two.

Yes we can but we must aim at the block we want to paste on the other to create the Blueprint (Ctrl+B) of it and use this blueprint in all your creations, like assembling specific part to complete the ship.

OR

Simply use Ctrl+C on that part, but must not be on the ship to create a copy or a Blueprimt of it.

Ctrl+V to load the copy, position it on the main ship (grid) by aiming the block you want to merge with your paste.

OR

Use the "Merge Blocks", add thrusters + Gyros + cockpit and move it in position so it can merge with the main ship.

I recommend to practice in a new creative world for not messing with your original save.

do this with copies first

"a steam error (16?) "

You are the second talking about this today and I was not sure what this error was so thanks for sharing :approve:

I thought it was because members were posting in the closed forums.

@Isamin... You can also use CTRL+X to cut the object from the world. This removes the object from the world but stores it in the clipboard.

To use any of the cut / copy / paste functions, they must first be enabled in the world settings.
Look for the checkbox labelled "Enable copy-paste" under the "Advanced" tab (it's normally enabled by default).

The SE clipboard works just like the Windows clipboard - it only stores 1 object at a time. If for example you cut an object from the world, then cut a second object from the world, the clipboard will only contain the second object - the first is lost - so make sure you know what's in the clipboard at all times so as not to lose your work.

It's also possible to use the cut / copy / paste functions in Survival games. To do that, open the Space Master Menu (ALT+F10) and check the box labelled "Enable Creative Mode Tools". Exit the menu with ESC.
You can toggle Creative mode tools on / off at any time.

@Dan... yeah, Steam is seriously borked right now. I'm getting all sorts of page erros - mostly the "404 / failed to load" type. Tried to report a thread earlier & could get nothing but "Failed to modify the topic, please try again later".
Also getting red errors every time when trying to post replies to threads - takes 4 or 5 attempts before the post succeeds.
Replies are not showing up in threads until several refresh attempts.
Every page loads like I'm logged out even though I'm not.
The whole of Steam has been getting worse every day for the last 2-3 weeks.

Don't suppose you know anything we don't?

@cptsavarus : "Don't suppose you know anything we don't?"

Steam is slow today for me but no errors.

Strange.
I know Steam often acts weird but this is way weirder than usual. Wouldn't normally think anything of it, except I'm honestly seeing new weirdness every single day & looks like others are too.
Still, thanks for confirming on your end.

Final on how the game works. In creative you can cut/copy/paste and put onto other structures by key command, this only works for entire structures and not parts of one. You can do same thing by making the copied object into a blueprint. Blueprints can be used to the same effect in non-creative mode, you do this by using a projector block, and then you weld in the blocks as if you had placed them your self. With this system you can create a automated ship factory able to print/weld out a entire ship in mere minutes. Or place modular designs that you saved as a blueprint (like a factory section, living space) onto or inside of a ship/station.
