Atmospheric Ship sinks to ground after having a subgrid on a rotor attached.
So I was in a multiplayer game that I hosted maself, minding my own engineering business building a small atmospheric mining ship with a rotating drill head of multiple drills, but when I undocked it, it began sinking to the ground even tho it has two large atmos thruster and multiple small ones lifting it upwards.
The fun part is that previously it didn't have the large thrusters and was equipped with 3 drills and worked just fine, but as soon as I attached those drills to a rotor it began sinking slowly! It appears as though the same drills on the rotor have a much higher weight as if they were attached to the ship directly.
It gets even funnier! In a singleplayer creative world the same ship flies and stays upfloat just fine!
What is going on?

Not necessary. Dampeners do not account for the mass of subgrids. It is common behaviour and I'm not even sure Keen plans to fix it.

Excuse me, that's quite horrible! What are they thinking? "Nah, no one will EVER build ships with subgrids!"

After frustration on mechanics, I quit playing steam a couple years ago. I recently started playing again because I had an idea for a ship with deploy-able solar panels. Guess I made the mistake of making my ship on Triton with gravity. The ship has several sub grids and I am experiencing the same problem with it sinking. Now I remember why I quit playing before. It was due to the same SH*T. And that was YEARS AGO. They say in SE that there are no limits with your creativity, that is unless you choose to actually be creative.

HI, a lot of those bugs were fixed and you see it when looking at the community reports on the Portal.

it is new bug that came out with the major game update last month and it does not happen for all players, also the SE prgrammer asked the community to help and a lot participated so now the report is reaction marked as "In Progress" and that means the hotfix will be out soon.

The main report if you want to share your game log file directly with the programmer tho a lot did already :

Never be shy to create a new forum discussion because the game is not the same at all now and I collect the most talked about every months on the discussions that have the current month date on it.

No offense Dan, but the subgrids causing sinking is not a new bug that started with the update last month. It's been a bug in every version of the game for years now.

It was 100% not ever fixed in any way. I have personally experienced that bug in every single version since I started playing the game around 3 years ago.

They are talking about subgrid weight and the thread you linked is about falling under planet voxels.

Still, does not happen to all and better report to the SE programmer if you want to help.

Report directly to the SE programmer so he can chat with you if he need more info :

Email = support@keenswh.com
Or
Support Portal = https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general
(create "Bug report" on the Portal)

How to share the log if some don't know =

The game log can be found here:
C:\Users\{YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log

or simply paste this into your Explorer:
%appdata%\SpaceEngineers

The log file should be from the game session where you've encountered the bug. If you start the game again, the log will be overwritten.
post log file to www.pastebin.com and add the link in your report by Email.
OR
No need of pastebin > Just Attach to your "Bug report" on the Support Portal.

Edit

Very good and helpful >> If you can send the world Save for the programmer to try.

I love how subgrid weight is related to falling beneath planet voxels via "it doesn't happen to all".

I dunno if a new log will help it Dan, go attach a subgrid to another subgrid and bingo, you've reproduced the issue.

I'm assuming it's something way way under the hood.
Dan2D3D  [developer] Apr 19, 2020 @ 7:03pm
My ships are OK, also friends ships, you should send your save or at least the Blueprint so the programmer can try.

____

You could share it with me but I would have prefered you to create a new forum discussion with your problem and your Workshop item in for me and the Veteran players to help you, like I said "Never be shy to create your forum discussion".

Dan, there is no point in providing logs or worlds for this because the developers have already said many times over the years that subgrids are not calculated in inertia dampener calculations.

They are well aware of it. This DOES happen to ALL. It's a well known thing in the community.
Again, this is not a "falling through voxel issue" as you have linked above.
This is an issue with subgrids not being calculated in inertia dampeners which then leads to the main grid not holding altitude or shaking, not holding still basically.

I lock my rotors and it stops.

We literally have to hold your hand to explain these issues.
Dan2D3D  [developer] Apr 19, 2020 @ 7:11pm
Share your ship with me and I will see if I can fix it for you or report, it's the only things you can do, well if you want to have help from the community.

Edit

The game is not the same and we have more options on rotors and pistons.

Do we have the option to make dampeners detect and add the subgrid weight? That would fix it quick smart.
