How to setup connectors

I am currently in singleplayer, trying to setup connectors between my ship and the station. However, I havent figured out how to do them yet.
Any help would be greatful

Just make sure the back of the connector is attached to your conveyor system and then back up so they meet.

They will automaticly magnatise to eachother, one the ship settles and is lined up press P to lock them and P to unlock. They change colour to show what state they are in.

Small not its best to have your ships coinnector on the toolbar with the lock/unlock action. If you press P it can undock ALL the connectors on your station no just the one you wanted, so keep it ship specific on the toolbar :)

ok, but now the items dont transfer over into the storage unit

Transfer isn't automatic unless you have something in place to force it to, like a conveyor sorter. Some items, like refineries or weapons, have a toggle for that. By default they should pull stuff in, but cargo containers don't have this.
