Private Server Help
I bought this the other day on a whim and have been having a blast with a friend every since. The only down side right now is when he leaves he loses progress, unless I am playing and he rejoins my game.

I did see on the website how to create a private server. Is it possible if I create the server that I am able to play from the same machine? Or do I need it on a different one?

Also, if there are any private servers that needs players we would be interested as I am not really sure about trying to manage one of my own. Not really into PVP if that is a thing here. I just love to build/explore and build some more.

Why would he lose progress? Whether its a dedicated server, or locally hosted MP game, others should not lose progress when they leave. That means you're not using cryo pods properly or that the trash cleanup is misconfigured. More details would be useful

Running a server on the same machine that you're playing on... is not recommended. All the reports I've read have been tales of woe on that front. Having him join your game will be much more productive than trying to run a server on your gaming rig.

Cryo pods: When he leaves the game, or before you shut down your game, he needs to have his character in a powered cryopod with an O2 supply. (or a bed, powered, in breathable atmosphere) This will keep his character 'alive' until he's able to join in again. This also applies for playing on a server.

As for private servers already up and looking for others, just hit up the Multiplayer section of these forums and look around. Maybe introduce yourself and see where you might fit in. (There's a full range of ruthless PvP, orderly PvP, scheduled brawls, and complete PvE)

As for your friend 'losing progress'... he's playing on his own, right? All he'd have to do is reload his save and continue. There's also 'blueprinting' (CTRL + B) his creations and using a projector (in survival) or F10 (creative) to bring things he's already made on his own into another save/game/server.

If its a hosted server then he wont lose progress unless the Trash Cleanup is deleting his grids. If you leave them unpowered that happens. Ensure your grids have proper power.

For his character itself, he will die and despawn if his body is not in a cryo chamber that has both power and a stable oxygen supply. If you despawn while offline your inventory is deleted. If you dont have a medbay or survival kit set up then you cant respawn at your base and you start over.

All of these are issues handled by player behavior and not bugs.

Indeed, on dedicated server we must use the Cryo Chamber = it was especially made to keep your character inventory after leaving the server.

also the server can delete all your creations if you don't play so make sure you connect every days or every weeks for not losing your shtuff.

I prefer to create the world Local in Offline mode before adding/pasting it to my Dedic server cause it will delete all the aggressive MP settings doing so.

The GTX server he is referring to is easier to configure than local games as the server setup has pulldown menus for more features than you can set locally.
