Can you merge blocks merge two ships together?
So on a server we tryed to merge block our two miner ships together. to get one of them towed back to base. but the merge blocks would only turn from white to yellow, not to green and merge. Why is this?

Do merge blocks not work for different owner ships of vehicals? even if we are in the same faction?

merge blocks need power to work
and they have to be the same grid size

It sounds as if the disabled ship is without power. Power it up first, at the very least shut down everything but the merge block and then build a new battery for it. Then try merging them again. I know this works myself, because this is how I build my modular ships, using merge blocks and one battery on the portion which is removed or replaced. (I build my ships like we build ships in the real world, parts pieced together).

Despite what these people are saying, merge blocks DO NOT REQUIRE power to function. Depending on where you are trying to merge the two grids, it is possible that there is a couple of blocks that are trying to occupy the same position on the new grid, and will therefore not allow the two grids to be merged.

Everything was powered both ships had power. one was my miner that i disabled by flipping it upside down and blowing off some thruster's and the gyro. needed it towed back to base.

The other was the person i was playing with and his was powered as well. The merge blocks just wouldn't connect. turn from red when unpowered to white when powered to yellow when in proxcimity of each other but would not turn green and latch onto each other.

But we did notice my landing gear latched onto him and almost flipped him in the process lol.

So we ended up just ramming my miner to flip it over and reverse thrust it back to base. that was fun, Almost got clipped my a meteor lol.

Maybe we will just use landing gear to tow ships from now on.

A word of advice if you're going to use merge blocks in this manner: NAME YOUR BLOCKS. Go into your control panel and assign unique names to key systems so you don't accidentally disable something on the wrong ship.

For simple towing, landing gear is definitely the best route. A merge block over-complicates the process.

its unlikely but have the miner the same grid size?
big and small grids cant be merged

Merge blocks are like wall plugs in your house. They just need to click together and power is shared.
