But I just created a Lone Survivor map to test.

Asteroid density was set to normal and view distance the default 15km.

And here you can see some asteroids close to the base and out in space.

Just remember that if you screw up the creation of a map and then create a bunch of stuff you don't have to abandon your creations.
You can create blueprints of each of your grids and then create a new map and paste them into existance.
Let us know if you need help doing that.

To bring up the Blueprints menu once you have made a blueprint just press F10.
Then you can copy it to the clipboard and paste it into your new world. (You'll need to activate Creative Tools by pressing <alt-f10> in Survival).
Here is the wiki. It will answer a lot of questions about individual blocks.

Here is probably the most up-to-date set of tutorials outside the game. He has lots and lots of additional videos.

And finally, F1 will bring up the help screen in-game and KSH has improved this considerably.
But don't hesitate to ask questions here. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. This game has a rather steep learning curve and small issues can frustrate you needlessly.
They just aren't spawning on world creation.
If this is the one I am thinking of, only 2 asteroids spawned. Both with Magnesium and Uranium. Nothing else and no other asteroids. Thanks for the help.
EDIT:
Also I think the view setting was 30km but I could be wrong.
I dropped a ship in and took off in a random direction and found 3 additional asteroids in quick succession. You can plug in those coordinates and verify it for yourself. So there are asteroids but they do not appear until you are vary close.

I've always left the view distance at the default 15km. I'm not sure why it gets set to custom for a 100km world. But there does seem to be an issue when the asteroids first spawn. I'm not sure if it is related to the view distance or not.
Try another new world, leave it infinite:normal and default 15km.
Also, I started a new game on the Solar system map. Unchecked delete respawn ships (check this twice to make sure it was unchecked) and loaded up the game. While I was out of my ship collecting ore, the respawn ship disappeared and left me stranded in my space suit.
So I went back, started another Lone Survivor this time with Experimental turned off, same thing again. 0 asteroids. I give up.
If you want to help the Devs on this = Go to the new Portal > https://support.keenswh.com/
There are some reports about missing asteroids with Dev comments in the new Bug reports section so maybe have a look in there before reporting and hit the "I have the same bug" button.
