Sim speed x FPS
I'm just a little curious, recently testing some (excessive) destruction of random ships and vehicles, I noticed that the sim speed goes down to 0.20, wich I'm guessing 20% of the normal timeframe, regardless, the FPS was still quite acceptable at 42FPS on a 120KM planet with a bunch of ships being destroyed by gunfire, but sim speed went down to 0.20 as I said, shouldn't the frames go down instead?

i think simspeed is more cpu bound and fps more gpu bound, i am not sure.

Yep, simspeed is wrecked when your CPU has to calculate a bunch of physical interactions in quick succession.

Makes sense, no wonder people claim this game is CPU intensive. I wonder if SE has been update to make use of multicore/threads lately, would sure see a performance boost.

They claimed to have implemented multicore some time ago. I believe the physics still all run on one thread, which is a limitation of the version of Havok their engine utilizes, but they've offloaded other game logic to other threads. Higher core count CPUs are more beneficial to the game than they used to be, but even with an overclocked 8700K you can still slog your sim speed if you're crashing capital ships into each other.

I see, since im crashing multiple capital ships on each other, I'll stick with my overclocked haswell.

dude, the multiplayer test server has fixed so much. id consider it a bit pointless to even play the current release.

Where did Captein say anything about multiplayer?

And? What is the coorelation in there?

If the new branch make things better on MP they will probaly make things EVEN BETTER on SP.

That's a spurious correlation. The things that dictate sim speed on a multiplayer server are different than the things that dictate sim speed on a single player game, and the player's control over those elements is different in each scenario as well.

you should maybe try to play the test first? because it improves optimization across the board.

but then you sound like you just enjoy disagreeing with people for no real reason whatsover... Enjoy wasting your time then :)

Sorry, but no. I'm not arguing that the test branch is "bad." Captein is playing a single player game, not a multiplayer game - test branch or no, the only thing that would be tanking his sim speed in a single player game is a heavy physics load on his processor.

In a multiplayer game, tanking sim speed could be caused by server/host load, lag, or - if SE still functions like it used to - a player on a potato connecting to the server.

I'm sure the beta has improved, but that's non-sequitur to this discussion.
