What do you fill the interior of your ship with?
Say you have a big capital ship. What do you fill it with besides endless corridors?

I've been having a problem with this :(

I usually add a bridge with command rooms, a med bay, crew quarters, assembler/refinery/storage, crew seating, a brig, some really cool hallways, escape pods, an observation deck, and of course, a hangar or two, a reactor and gyro room. But still, I have extra space.

After all of that. All I could do with this is make really cool looking walls and useless hallways. What could you add to this to fill the emptiness?

maby you can add docking stations a place to chill and a safe room

You could also use those hallways to set up "kill rooms" with an interior turret in an inconvienient location for attackers, making your ship harder to board
Of course, they would server more for space filling, for practical purposes I'd put them in junctions between sections.

That kill room reminds me of the time a friend put two large hydrogen thrusters so that they would boost into the ship.... damn you could build an incineration chamber using some hydrogen thrusters and control them via script so they won't meddle with the movement of the ship :-P

I usually build utility stuff so i usually just have much to big cargo / docking bays. The cargo bays usually give off this 'wtf why can't i see the other end' vibe...

But i once built a crew transporter and downloaded some furniture mods for that. Having a kitchen, wash rooms, sleeping quarters and such really looked nice. I also like using display mods liek having small block and angled displays. You can put them on rotors and like use them as kind of small screens hanging down above the beds or even more important on the toilet!

But if it should be vanilla .. well i still like the kill room idea :-P Maybe some squeezing while being incinerated might make for a nice change... on the other hand are moving pistons on a moving ship probably not such a good idea unless you love clang...

You could also try to imitate furniture using rotors and small blocks.. like making beds or so hanging from the ceiling or a shower or something ..

As a rule i always avoid useless space ineterior rooms.

I could imagine some pretty brutal kill rooms/hallways, with the thrusters being placed in the other side of the wall (no warning!).

Not sure if they can damage through the wall or not, but I can imagine someone not caring about losing a hallay to thruster damage!

as a rule i create very mission specific ships, making big capital ships is cool and all but lets not forget support ships found in any fleet

I usually build mostly from the inside out rather than outside in so most of my misc. space ends up being various gaps where utility bits like the conveyor system goes. If anything, I usually forget to add room for certain things than have rooms I don't know what to do with, but the latter does happen occasionally.

If it is feasible, you might connect the extra space to the hangar and make a maintenance/construction bay.

Personally, I prefer not to build ships bigger or more complex than I need. Thus, I don't usually have much trouble figuring out what to do with otherwise empty interior space. For me, it's more "how do I fit this into the available space?", at least when tweaking an existing ship. For completely new builds, it's more "how compact or cheaply can I make this?"

''What do you fill the interior of your ship with?''

Just the Engineer and ship needs > less blocks as possible.

No need of 10 Refineries when only one can do the work :caster_wink:

If you're talking about a combat vessel or a freighter, I'd say make a self destruct system. No point in letting a potential enemy get alot of resources and a ship if they were to board you. Besides, you woudn't be able to get those resources back. That's purely RP tough since I doubt you'll get boarded alot in SE, but I hey, it's fun to be able to blow your ♥♥♥♥ up with a single button right?

For warships, I'd fill some that spare room by making the hull thicker. Then I would slap on more thrusters, if possible, and up the power output. When the interior is small enough for me to work with, I try to make it feel cozy, and I have fun with glass.
Also, hangars are a good way to fill an interior.

For me, the shape and size of the ship is determined by what I'm going to put in it. That includes decorative elements.

dont forget to put blast doors at vulnerable areas. They protect the ship against crashes 100 times better and will keep vulnerable areas safer.
