Jump Drive Failure.
i am trying to use a jump drive for the first time. i have checked that everything is working. it is fully charged, the jump command is in my toolbar, i have it set to jump 3% (55km) i am in space, trying to jump in space. i have moved the ship multiple times yet continue to get the following message.

Obstacle detected! Jump distance will be truncated. /nDistance to destination 3.24m
Minimum jump distance: 5,000.00m

why am i getting this message?

It happens when there is asteroids in the way or at your destination point where the ship will reappear.

I will move my ship upward or downward when it happens and try till I find a working spot.

i have tried this, and selecting different targets, every jump attempt gives the same message

Are you doing a blind jump or a jump to a GPS marker?

Do you have subgrids on your ship (docked ships or stuff on top of a piston or rotor)?
If yes it is posible one of the subgrids got detected as obstacle.

Maybe it's just because of the ship mass? And it need more Jump Drives?

Have you tried a full jump, you said you have set it to 3% so maybe try higher!?

You could test try in a new creative world to see if it's the same problem, that should give you more clues about the ''why''.

Blueprint your ship first and paste in a new world for a test.

i do have a small ship attached to the main ship, and have verified it is not causing the issue by detaching it and attempting the jump, 100% jump still gives same message, as do blind, and gps jumps, the ship weighs only 464,684kg with the small mining ship weighing 135,235kg

Bugged world maybe?

I would do the quick test in my post above ^^ also add more jump drive to see, well to do more than one test ;)

Try Star Sys. and withdraw all NPCs + auto-save Off... I have a world save with those settings especially for quick testing.

Share your ship on the Workshop and I will help to find the problem.

ill try the new world test first, it may be just a bug in the current world.

so i can jump to a gps coordinate, only, ONLY if i am not facing the target.. i cannot jump forward for some reason...

Weird bug, I will double check my STS Jumper next time tho it was working last time I've jumped with small ships onboard.
Elite Apr 29, 2018 @ 1:33pm
yea the small ship onboard has no effect on the jump, i just literally cannot jump facing forward. i have to face in any other direction in order to jump.

Might be a good idea to puplish a blueprint of your ship (or the world in case it is moded) and link it here so we can test if we get the same behavor.

That way we can also check if it is somehow caused by how your ship is set up.

Works fine on my side so I really don't know why you have this problem.

I just tested :

I'll say redo a very small ''prototype'' with only a Nuc Reactor, flight seat and jump drive to test.

i know this is old but i had this problem today. turns out the projector still being on was the problem. apparently the drive detected the ghost image as a collision.

Save in front of the bug ready to test, publish it on the Workshop, share the item link in a new forum discussion and I will go test it.

Note

I will lock this old 2018 discussion because the game is not the same now, and don't be shy to create a new one.
