100% CPU usage on a 4.2GHz I7-7700K
I've recently upgraded several components in my pc for the sole purpose of having a better CPU to run space engineers without constant lag even on minimum settings but after reinstalling the game and running it for the 1st time on my new hardware I'm finding that my CPU usage is completely maxed out.

I have almost nothing at all running in the background besides the essentials to run my pc and a small few other things yet I'm still maxed out and recieving in game warnings even on just medium graphics.

Nothing my disk, GPU and memory usage all stay below 50% yet a 4.2GHz I7 CPU is being pushed to it's limits, this lack of optimisation is beyond a joke and Keen really need to get their act together if they want this game to survive long enough to reach full release.

Did you also clear out your users folder, specifically the config file and the ShaderDirectories?

TBH I would just delete the lot except for the blueprints\local directory.

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers

Oh and your saves if you want to keep them.

The in game info (shift+F11) is a bit strange, I get almost 100% GPU and CPU there aswell.
But Windows task manager says my overall CPU utilisation is 30%, so I am not shure what exactly those numbers mean.

Don't get me wrong SE needs optimisation.

My specs:
AMD FX(tm)-9370 Eight-Core Processor @ 4.4GHz
GTX 770
16 GB RAM

If i had to guess, SE runs mainly on one core, so your main core is getting maxed out while other cores are not getting utilized fully.

The load is spread over 5 cores acording to task manager highest one is around 70 - 80%

It depends on the segments of code, a lot of stuff is multithreaded these days, thats how they get sim speed increases, IIRC the game has 0.0018s to execute everything it needs to in order to avoid a player noticeable sim speed drop.

Therefore a lot of stuff should be getting pushed to other threads that aren't required 'in the moment'.

This is why big collisions kill the game because you need immediate calculations.

There was a nice long thread written by Rexxar explaining it all when they opened up MT to modders a few updates ago.

I remember the big "physics" update, but even then its only using one other core, and its only got a fraction of stuff pushed off to it because alot of stuff would have to stay on the main core for multiplayer sync, again im just guessing.

How much Ram do you have, graphic card, etc.?

My friend with that exact same CPU has 100% ingame but in taskmanager its a whole different story just one core maxed out since SpaceEngineers has a lot running on one core They are working on it to get it better spread out on multiple cores . Optimisation is one of their top priorities

Maybe the game needs a fix for your CPU?

Hi Stollie,

+ 200 hours each and I'm not done yet, I will update again later and/or when the game is completed. ;)

you might want to get a better gpu as the game requires a 780 minimum
