If you don't want to use that method and assuming your antenna's/beacons still have power you should be able to move in the general direction of you last know postion and with any luck you should see the signal pop up on your hud.
Personally I would go the space master route. Of course this is all for not if you do have a waypoint set in which case follow Bad Luck's advice (I had to laugh at the parody) and turn on the waypoint so you can see it in the HUD.
