In terms of 'pasting' a blueprint onto another existing structure, it do this in spectator mode cause its a pain in the ass otherwise, though the ctrl scroll method i mentioned can make it easier.
So, put your cursor on the block you want to be pasted with the block on the other grid when making the copy or else you'll have issues.
I've used Creative mode for design work and often create little handles (two or three light armor blocks) coming out from the section so I can use them as "pivot points" when cutting and pasting. This helps if the shapes are not cooperative.
This is really important when copy paste building, the block you look at when you copy it is the block it will attach from when you paste.
Caused me a lot of headache with copy paste untill i found that out :)
copy pasting "B" function is broken
copy placement is broken
EVERYTHING "copy>paste" realated used to be ALOT better 2 patches ago.
