Hydrogen powered ship, bizarre fuel drain issue
Hey all, what in the space is going on when I pop into my hydrogen powered miner and the ENTIRE stored H2 fuel drains while docked - just sitting in the cockpit!? i mean, yes the jetpack gets topped up but... not a full small H2 tank worth, lol
(ship has an H2O2 generator onboard)

Anyone know what could be happening here? its been killing my game for over week.

rebuilt the ship, watched others on YouTube such as Splitsie and Kanajashi and the ship is effectively the same and they are seeing 10 HOURS of fuel when mine cannot even fly at the moment

Do you have a hydrogen engine on your base/ship where you dock? or hydrogen tanks set to stockpile? If you have a hydrogen engine it will drain your H2 tanks in moments if its a large grid from a small grid and minutes from a large grid h2 tank.

If you have H2 tanks that are set to stockpile on the base they will pull all H2 and use o2/h2 gennys to convert ice until they are full.

whenever you dock you should turn off the dampeners - because even docked to a station it will still try to break to 0 speed - that will mean it will use every little fuel to do so (or energy in case of ion ships) this will leads both to wasting fuel and possibly burning holes in the landing pad.

So yah turn the interia dampeners OFF.

Another thing using hydro could be hydrogen power generators - as long as there is one ON somehwere then it WILL suck H2 from any source aviable - this might include docked ships so when not used you should turn them all off (and i mean the hydrogen power generators that make electicity - not the H2/O2 generators that make the fuel/oxy).

Parked using landing gears or using a connector?

Actually both - Whenever you land (both LG and connecors or even merge blocks) just turn off the dampeners - otherwise you will end up wastng fuel.

And yes setting the tanks on stockpile will prevent loosing fuel as well.

Another thing not mentioned is that Hydrogen thrusters DO consume H2 while idle, just like all other thrusters use a few watts of power constantly. Call it a pilot light or whatever, but it's not a bad idea to shut them off when safely docked.

Still, check for engines running, or tanks on the base that want filling.

well ive never had the issue of them using hydro when idling - aka hanging in space for eg - in those condition they would only use fuel when nudged by other ship for eg - and they do so only when dampeners are on - in order to stop the ship. Otherwise no fuel usage whatsoever.

The idle light you mention is only the sign for the user that they are connected to active source of fuel - aka turn off the tank and the engines will go dark - but they dont use any fuel when idling - unless you leave the docked ship with damepers on - as mentioned a bit above.

The same goes for Ion thrusters - they dont use any power when idle. (keep in mind dampeners off) - Basically the blue glow is just a sign that the thruster has power and its operational (aka in good health- aka undamaged). So its merely informational in nature. Cheers

thank you all very much for the pointers, i will be trying again tonite to stem the fuel leak adding your suggestions - dampeners off, add tank stockpile on/off to toolbar, end any others i am currently not doing.

i have it docked by connector yes, the large h2 tank on base is full and stays full (fuel hasnt been touched for weeks), the h2 Genny on base is off (running wind turbines and batts is enough atm), the other vehicle (attached by connector) is full on power and hydro and has ice loaded up into storage - it seems to function as expected even with hydrothrusters for extra boost.
all vehicle connectors are setup to route ice into vehicles and the goods out of vehicles onto base so...
Here goes!
Thanks again
