There's always landing gear. If you're using timers or a script to control the walk, you could have the same thing controlling the lock on / off.

Any particular reason you don't want to use wheels?
You wouldn't necessarily need the suspension blocks as well if those are a problem - just wheels on rotors & lock the rotors.
If the mech is large enough you could hide them inside the feet.

the mech is about 6 small blocks tall

I used mass blocks in the feet of my small mech, seems to work really well.

And i thought my mechs were tiny lol

I do usually go for wheels myself. You could maybe try some armour. Possibly the 2x1 tip placed on the feet with slope forward. The back edge would create a ridge, 3 in a row and you have sort of a shoe sole tread. Hopefully the ridges would grip more. Not tested it but random idea :)

May make things more complicated, but maybe landing gear? Think I've seen a couple builds that used that for the feet.

6 small blocks tall?!
I see why you don't want to use wheels!
This I want to see when it's finished!
Sounds like a serious contender for cutest mech ever.
I'll eat my words if it's bristling with guns!

You could still try using the 1x1x1 wheels, minus the suspension blocks. You should be able to mount them directly onto armour blocks if there's no room for rotors.

Don‘t landing gears break though if you just look at them from the wrong angle? Certain blocks like tyres and drill heads are exempted from collision damage, they make better feet. You could watch the VODs from Xocliw‘s Robot battles, they are bigger than yours, but you could see which blocks last longest.

Hah, nice!

What is this guy using for feet in his quadruped? I can't tell:

ia also planning to create one my theory to test is landing gear.
Löock when leg is touching the ground and unlock when the leg moves up

Landing gear is a cheat to me haha

From the gif you posted OP i think thats about the best your gonna get out of a design that small. The longer the legs the more ground gets covered each step and the speed goes up. I think yours is faster than my small one...

Im getting some strange error tyring to play the vid, maybe it works for you guys.

PS Your feet are very long (for stability im sure) but do you know of the gyro trick to get a super strength gyro?

It lets you have smaller feet and even right yourself with the mouse if you fall over. All you need to do is put 2 gyros on it, set one to overide but leave all settings for pitch roll and yaw at 0. Then leave the second gyro set normally. Boom, super strength gro perfect for mechs or motorbikes :)

Nice one!
Yep. You just won cutest mech ever!
Never felt the need to sub to walkers on the workshop before - usually it's enough for me to just enjoy watching them... but this I must have!
Do drop us a link if & when you publish it.

So looks like wheels are working for you.
Do you find them an ok solution or still want something else?
Gyrexion Nov 23, 2019 @ 7:02am
i will

Love the title! Great job!
Instant sub from me.
Will be checking the lil guy out next time I put my DT online.

I'm picturing a video with a load of these as pieces in a game of battle chess. It's all serene & chess-like until an engineer walks in & hits a big red disco button, then they all go berserk & start kicking & shooting each other around the board to the sound of Keens "Fun Music".
