How to blacklist blocks?
I want to prevent players from placing certain blocks, but I still want an admin to be able to place them in creative mode.

For example, maybe I want to disable medbay, so I can have a PVP server with limited respawn points.

Or maybe I want to have a mod installed, and I only want an admin able to place E-coin machines, or teleporters.

EDIT: The block limits setting available for dedicated servers looks like it should solve my problem, as it should still allow admins to spawn it by overriding block limits. I haven't tried it yet, but I've marked the post that gave this solution. It should work with modded blocks.

EDIT: This doesn't appear to actually do anything.

I know it's possible. I see scenarios have some blocks disabled.

Try looking at the mods in the workshop.

Mods in the workshop don't help me. I want to pick and choose the blocks myself, not hope that somebody else already disabled the specific block I want to disable, which might also be a modded block.

The Escape from Mars scenario does it. Why can't anyone else tell me how to do it?

I guess I'm never getting help on this.

That means either working with an existing mod someone else made, or making your own mod. The choices of block availability are in the mod system.

Not sure if it is possible = ?? but I am in since the beginning and I learned that a lot can be done so all is possible, well there is always a solution in this game < that is what I learned.
(+ workaround)

I create Premade PVP worlds to play with my son a best friends and all knows the rules before going in so I don't have problems with blocks I don't want them to use.

Use Safe Zones to protect the main stations, etch ...

PVP > Premade Dog Fight arena with rules so all players knows why they are in for > to Battle <

I use PCU limit to be fair in PVP = Dedic Sever settings and + limits on specific block from the Dedic consol options.

Maybe try the "deathmatch" premade world that is available in-game, made by Keen Designer and that will give you a good example of what can be done for a good PVP battle.

When public with no rules = harder to have a good play and better play with members you know and want to play a PVP battle/match to avoid "problems", imo.

Medbay was just a random suggestion for sake of example. It probably wouldn't be hard to find a mod that removes medbay.

The specific instance I'd like to mess with is that there's a mod that adds a really overpowered laser weapon, and I want to make it so that the gigantic f*ck-off doom laser that shoots 10km is no longer possible for players to build, but I still want it to be buildable through admin commands.

The reason I want to know how to do it myself rather than hope somebody else has done it is because I want to do it myself so I can do it when I want to. EDIT: That might no longer be necessary. See answer post.

This actually gives the answer I am looking for. Thanks. I haven't tried it yet, but PCU limits and specific block limits might do exactly what I am trying to do, since I believe admins can override block limits.

A lot use Torch that gives a lot more options so we added the links to it and to the author's Discord in the pinned of the "Server-admin" channel on Keen Discord and that would be a good place for you to chat with the Veteran Admins using Torch and rexxar the author of Torch is helping users in his Torch Discord.

I appreciate the suggestions. I may jump in to ask other troubleshooting instructions such as server optimization in the future.

I have one last query. How can I get the name of blocks so that I can limit them? Modded blocks, namely.

I want to limit a modded block to 0 so that it can't be spawned by players.

You should ask the Modder cause he made the Mod and may not have completed that part with PCU on all his Modded blocks = a lot of Modders have not updated their Mod after the PCU update for MP and why you must ask the Modder.

So, I set the limits to zero on the torch server, and I'm still able to spawn these items, which means either I have input the wrong information, or this doesn't work on zero amounts.

Or the torch functionality is broken.
