Turned drop-pod into a small ship; left unatended because damaged; now gone! WTF?
Hi.

I installed the game last week, and I'm on my fist playthrough. Following the suggestion on a youtube video, I turned the drop-pod into a small mining ship, to get started quickly. Unfortunately, I managed to damage one of the truster, so had to go back to my base to get spare parts. I turned the power of the drop-pod off before leaving, just to save some battery. Now I come back, and it's simply gone. :steamfacepalm: And since the game auto-save in between, I can't even recover it by going back to my last manual save. Tell me there's something I can do to prevent all my ships from randomly disappearing when I move away from them, because otherwise I may as well rage quit right now... :steamsad:

this has something to do with you turning power off and cleanup trash removal i think it happened to me once.

make sure you have a survival kit installed or a med lab or you can lower the trash removal feature to a smaller amount.

if i am not mistaken the above is what sounds like happened to you

Hi @kymsheba. I do have a survival kit. I can carry on with my base in it's current state. My point is, if my tiny ship randomly disappear for no reason, I can expect that a big ship that I would need weeks to build could do the same, and that would definetly make me rage-quit. So before I waste masses of time pointlessly on "disapearing ships", I want to know how to prevent this.

Hi, this does not happen to me, I usually play Offline with Auto-save OFF = I prefer to use the "Save as" feature and create copies before loading.

+

It "Teleports" my character when using the "Save as" in-game <> in the world = it will keep the original save intact and teleport me in the new save.

No mess and I never lose any of my creations doing so ^.

IF

you play MP = your stuff may get deleted so make sure they have power!

and I think there is a setting for deleting the respawn ship so that is a thing, too.

Oh! I forgot

>> I must change the Save name when I use the "Save as" feature so it create a real usable copy.

Yes, here is the "Delete respawn ship option you should disable :

Under the "Optimal spawn distance" slider ^ = make sure it's OFF

IF you don't see the world setting

So, if I disable auto-save, and save manually, (which is my prefered way of playing anyway), I can work-around this issue, by going back to an old save. Also, if I "blueprint" my ships whenever I create/change them, I could respawn them (idk how to do that yet; must google...).

BUT, that doesn't answer the original question; why on earth would the game simply delete my ship? Does the game really consider anything that is "powered off" to be "trash" (and then the trash-auto-deletes removes it)? Are ships only "safe" when they use landing gears and are "bound" (I have yet to learn the exact SE "vocabulary) to a base or another ship?

It is MP settings so do you play Solo?

I have experimental mode on, but idk how to get to that "advanced world settings" window.

I play solo survival; no "server".

1 - If you play Solo = better set the world > OffLine = nothing should be deleted in this mode.

2 - Advanced W Settings =

> Go to your loading Saves menu
> Select your save (highlighted) and click the settings button on the left
> a new page will open = click the "Advanced setting" button

Right there are the world settings

that checkbox is to have 10 respawn ships if you decide to die 10 times - it prevents previous one (or debris of that one) from disappearing when you pick new one afaik.

Ships despawn only when they lose power (=are turned off) and you go 500+m away. Also have less than 20 blocks or are in small grid. Large ships won't despawn even if left without power due to size afaik.

Ah! well I turn Off my cars and ship on planet Earth and go play on the moon = nothing gets deleted on my side.

So it must be a world setting

OK. Wow. Really didn't expect that. If real life was like that, I'd have to buy a new car every morning! :steammocking:
