Antenna and drone question
Need som tips.
I have tryed to make a drone and use antenna on it and have the range on max, and the same for the base antenna. When i start flying for i while, i will lose connection.
The question: do i lose connection because the antenna for my drone is 5000, even the base antenna is 50000 or is it line of sight?

The antenna with the smallest reach decides how long both antennas reach, so that would be 5 km here. For 50 km reach use large parts, then you can build both antennas with reach of 50 km and things should work. Good luck

If you need to control a drone over a longer distance than it's Antenna allows, build yourself an Antenna drone. Basic idea is large ship blocks, solar power, a battery, an antenna, remote control , camera. Fly the Antenna Drone out say 48km, and park it so it get maximum solar power.

I've done this setup with 5 of such drone in a row, for a 220km route between two stations. Drones could be flown on autopilot and then docked at the other end.

I control my Drone from a Station seat = it will use the large antenna range that is way better than the Engineer suit range.

That is what i have done 🤔

It will lose the connection if you go out of the Station antenna range.

You may enable "See antenna range" from the station terminal in "Info" Tab = this way you will see it and know if it is a bug + IF you lose the Drone while into the antenna range and that would be a Bug to report on the Support Portal :selike:

Testing needed to be sure it is a bug to report.

To see an antenna, you (or some repeater station) must be within the antenna's broadcast range. In order to CONTROL something on the remote grid, both antennas need to be able to see each other. This is 2-way communication, sending information and receiving orders.

There is no mechanic for reception and signal boosting. There is only transmission radius. You're either in range of the transmitter, or you get nothing. (Much simpler to code)

okey. i have been in antenna range, i was just over 5k range and lost connection. that's why i ask about the line of sight. i may lose it because i am moving my drone around the mountain

The drone only has a 5km range set on the antenna. It can only be seen up to that range. Mountains do not matter.

Could be a power issue (if you drop out within range), if you red line your power supply you may drop out of control.

You shoud see a powermeter bottom right on your screen when in control of your drone, near 100 or turning red meens not enough power.
