How can I connect the cockpit with a container?

I've been trying to built a mining ship, but I keep struggeling with connecting a container to my drills and my cockpit. Any ideas why it doesn't work? (picture coming soon)

You cant connect a small hatch to a large hatch, which is what it looks like you have. If you rotate the storage so it is small to small then you should be fine. (note - I only looked at the container)

The third image looks correct, but its hard to really see everything properly from pictures.

I tested the conveyor connections using stone and none of them seem
to work.
(Each comment with pictures shows one setup. The upper one is from top view and the bottom one from side view)

Oh. You have no power. Everything is yellow, they should be green. Plop a small battery on there to test, and see if it works.

Yellow is 'No connection', not 'No power'. The conveyor tubes don't have a complete connection at both ends. The junction could be partially built, or the drill could be the problem. Run your welder over things, just to make sure.

i usually just attach a h202 gen behind the cockpit, then connect cargo containers. it fits nicely and allows it to be used in space (it will produce hydrogen and oxygen while it has ice)

This was driving my newb self crazy till I read the above post by Drago. The O2/H2 gen does the trick. Thank you Drago

1. As DargoF1sh mentioned place an O2/H2 generator behind the cockpit. Place the 02/H2 generator on the cockpit so the 2 small ports on the cockpit and the generator line up.

2. You don't have any power. Place a battery or a reactor on the ship. Nothing works without power.

3. You won't be able to use the small grid containers because the O2/H2 generator only has a large grid conveyor port exposed to connect to. Connect a Large Cargo Container to the 02/H2 Generator's large port.

4, Then place a Conveyor Junction and then a conveyor elbow on each side of the cargo container so the ports on the elbows face forward along side of the cockpit.

5. Then place your drills on the conveyor tubes.

Ok so after my batteries drained a little too quickly I took a deeper look into it and the O2/H2 Gen is a power glutton. So it's back to the drawing boards.
