View from cockpit very dark / totally black

Hey all,

Got back into SE recently and have been playing survival. Did a "Lone Survivor" start to get a feel for the game again before, two days ago, starting a Planet-based game start.

All has been going well, until that is I built my first Mining ship - a very very basic one. When I get into the cockpit and use first person view, even during bright daylight, the view can become very very dark. Going to external view is perfectly bright.

When I dock at my base, there's a cliff face right in front of me - I guess 20-30 metres away. Even when it's in full, bright daylight, the view from my cockpit goes totally black - zero visibility. External view however remains just fine.

The only thought I have on this is that its SE's quirky "I'm in the dark" calculation is getting it wrong. I think this as the cockpit is slightly recessed into the structure of the ship - I basically gutted the Survival Pod thing and turned it into a Miner. My PoV isn't in the shade, though partially covered, but the game evidently thinks it's in total darkness at times.

I say "at times" because sometimes it's just fine, no darkening at all. When it does get dark, even putting on the ships lights doesn't work. It lights up the interior of the cockpit, but outside remains dark / black - yet, once again - there's perfect illumination when switching to the external view.

This issue basically breaks first person view when it occurs, and I prefer first person view other than when docking.

Is there an option to turn off this light / dark adaptation, so I can test if it's the culprit. I'm not adverse to using mods to improve this feature. I did use something I cannot remember now when I played before, it basically fixed the horrible low-res blur effect the game's Post Processing setting adds. Horrible. I'm turned off PP for the time being.

It is the "eye adaptation" feature that will set all darker when in shadow or inside a cave.

"Is there an option to turn off this light / dark adaptation" = No but may have a Mod for that on the Workshop so just use the WS search tool to find. (or wait and a member using may tell you)

Thanks Dan, I'll check that out. I don't recall the adaptation being quite like this before though. I mean, I see the darkening when I enter an enclosed space with no windows of course, but to get this while sat in a cockpit seems like it might be a bug.

It may be reported, a lot are participating in the making of SE now so I recommend to use the Portal search tool to find more clues =

i'm really struggling to not go crazy playing this game.. every 10 min i get to discover something that just gets me mad... earlier my welder ship desintegrated because i had a block touching the side of it, later the thrusters on it stopped working all, i put the ones going up at full thrust overide and nothing, i then save the game and reload, when i get back the ship is going for the moon....
i chase it up and board, then on the way down engines are not working again.. quick on off toggle makes them work, but guess what is not over yet.... the damn inertia dampener doesn't work anymore in the vertical axis...done some googling and found out the fix.
and then literally 5 min after that i go to dock the ship to a connector and facing the ground i get the screen all black and can barely see where to move to dock..i hate this game!!!!
