Dedicated Server - Port Forwarding
I am trying to set up a dedicated server, but I am unable to port forward on our current setup (I know how, but my roommate is in control of the setup and has pentagon level security, and I cant get the ports forwarded - Just trust me the option to forward the port is not available).

My questions are - do you still need port forwarding on the dedicated server? If so, is there any workaround?

I believe I have everything setup properly, but I cannot see the server on the list, I cannot direct connect via IP, and also the IP:Port is not open based on a port checker. If the port is no longer needed to be open, that means I set things up wrong. If it does, the leads me to believe things are set correctly, and I just cant properly host and will need a workaround.

Yes you do need to set up port-forwarding, no there is no workaround, that's how networks function.

You must go into the router anyway if you want to run a Dedic, for Port Forwarding or place the server (PC) in the DMZ (not recommended) OR direct connect with Static IP.

ROUTER AND FIREWALL SETTINGS

a) Static IP: If you intend to run a game that people from all over the Internet can connect to, you will need a static public IP address. Your internet service provider should tell you whether you have one or not. Without the static IP address, you will be able to host a dedicated server on your LAN, but people from outside the LAN won’t be able to connect to it.

b) Port forwarding: The game uses UDP protocol to communicate. The default listen port is 27016, but this can be changed in the config tool. In order for people to be able to reach your server, you will have to configure your router to forward all incoming UDP traffic on port 27016 (or any other that you have specified) to the computer where your dedicated server is running.

c) Firewall settings: Make sure to set the firewall on your server computer to allow incoming UDP traffic on the listen port.

I have 27016 open yet the server and game cant connect unless the server firewall is off. Any ideas where and what else I should check on this?

Hi, I am busy so I recommmend to go ask the other community server admins runing their servers atm.

All can chat with the SE admins and the official admins in the "Community-server-admin" channel on Keen Discord and the direct invit link to the SE community is in that pinned :

Looks like you are new on the SE forums so I must specifiy :

I am not a SE Dev but forum Moderator community helper/game tester and I help the SE community since 2013 because it's my Favorite Sandbox game on Steam.

-> I collect the most talked about every months to send to the SE team and they gave me the [Dev] Tag so I can be admin of the Workshop to help more.

I collect the most talked about every months to report to them so my Favorite Sandbox game can become better.

Note

2019 discussion is way too old to reopen.

We lock +3 months old discussions because the game is not the same after a update where old disscussions may contain false information, discussions that don't have any activity so no new posts since 3 months. also to avoid community reports about "Necroing old" and it is in the forum rules added to pinned green messages.

Never be shy to create a new forum discussion if you want players help, one problem at a time so all players can help on one idea/problem per discussions that matches the game version.
