I recommend making a vehicle with an ore detector cranked up to max range.
Large grid if affordable and since you don't have cobalt for thrusters, it has to be wheels.
What I do is just make a large grid monster truck with nothing but a battery, antenna and an ore detector on it and just drive around. You have no way of saving that if it flips tho so be careful.
To get there, I recommend setting up a drill on some pistons in your base.
Enable experimental mode in the main menu to get the inertia tensor option for that, it'll prevent the drill arm from shaking and potentially blowing up.
You could also make a miner on wheels but those are a pain to align with connectors and if you drive that thing over a bump and it blows up or it flips, that's not a good time.
In any case, you'll want to get away from hand mining asap to get things rolling.
mainly a ore detector must be first choice to find stuff if your suit antenna is turned on ( Button "o" ) then it should work
if you add an antenna then set the distance to short range if needed (300m to 500m) this will consume less energy
