Excessive RAM Use of Dedicated Server Software
When running the dedicated server software for Space Engineers I notice that it hogs up pretty much all my RAM until I start having hard faults and it starts using disk to clear it up. It hasn't crashed all together but you'll get lag spikes often once it gets to that point. I was wondering is there a way to set it in a config file or something so that it will only use like 8-10 Gigs of RAM. Because after a while it starts fighting my system for RAM.

I have a 2nd Gen. Ryzen 5 (6 core) ~3.4 GHz, 16 Gigs of RAM, Radeon RX 580 w/ 8Gigs, and I run the server off an SD, and Win 10 Pro x64 Bit.

Hi, the best I can share is to go ask and try the other SE admins Servers from the SE community on Keen Discord, some are community helpers and helping members over there.

All can join the community from my post in that pinned :

Thank you. I'll give that a try.

You could share your setup here so the Veteran Players can help.

I use at home in my second PC and using my second Steam account, for only 2 to 3 players and the RAM seems OK on my side.

What is your setup?

Game and server run in the same PC?

Edit

My server RAM used =

GC Memory: 2,046,945,432 B
GC Memory: 2,046,218,024 B
GC Memory: 2,046,283,432 B
GC Memory: 2,046,347,352 B

I definitely had a memory leak, and yes my game and server run on the same PC and until recently I haven't had issues. However I just updated the server so we will see if that fixed the issue.

I have "Memory" problems when I play in Race Track scenario where I always explore new areas, I mean going foward at 100m/s on a one way track that make me reveal/load new areas.

= RAM will use my Hard Drive to create more, 16 RAM + Hard Drive can go up to 30 while racing long distance.

>> Better on small round race track where I stay in the same area.

I run the Lunar Base Start scenario and we play in that world.

Oh! It may happen only in that "Easy Start" ?

I always create in the asteraoid world or the Star System and add my Fav world settings, I will try the Easy Moon Start next time I go MP tho you could report if not reported already.

All Testers report on the Portal and it is the best place to look at to know more on what is going on and report bugs, here :

Yeah didn't seem to have the issue before. I'll look more into different things.

Maybe you could try this other premade "Easy Moon Start" I shared not so long ago for a test, to see if it is better in this one :

Note
>> If you load Local = Set it for "Friends" cause it is set "Offline" mode.

Servers are demanding, depending on your settings, turn the view distance down, limit the number of players, floating objects, block limits to reduce ram. Turning all those settings up to max is really only for people with proper server racks. If your running your server on a regular PC then you have to leave most of it default or under.

I am aware of this and never had issues before. It seems to be a memory leak. I am using a memory cleaner and it keeps it in check and makes things much better.
I love Space Engineers but the multiplayer could definitely be optimized or completely done better. Just have to kinda over look some of that though. It isn't AAA.
However, I wish their way of fixing things was actually making their game do the things it is capable of rather than well just turn ♥♥♥♥ off and turn things down. (I don't run ridiculous crap so I don't have to but still.)

well that is normal and actually it works as it has to work.
RAM is exactly used to cache all the data to access it faster. Dumping everythign into page file or limiting the RAM usage will cause the DS to be unresponsive and slow.

Also remind that the DS needs the full ammount of RAM for the game while you game needs the RAM aswell. Running a DS on your gamign PC is a terribe idea as you have then twice the load and RAM suage.
