Economy and single player
Maybe it's just me, but I don't play multiplayer... Why doesn't the update realize I am playing single player and lower the prices or provide contracts that someone could do by themselves? Maybe my issue is the total lack of being a decent ship builder, but the contracts seem almost impossible to do.

Try acquisition contracts to begin with. You'll make a ton of credits in no time and they have no time limit.
Hauling contracts are for when you have a ship that can jump ridiculous distances without much effort and are good for finding other station locations.
Escort missions are generally, like you said, for ships designed with an optimal balance of speed, maneuverability and firepower.
Bounties the only ones really for multiplayer.

Just out of curiousity, what can you buy with credits? Are there parts, equipment, resources that you purchase that aren’t available through mining or crafting? Can you purchase pre built ships from merchants?

ships buggys tools ...

but somehow i think i will build them myself

You can buy pre built ships, Resources, parts and equipment, anything you can buy, You CAN make, so there is nothing in the shop you can't mine or build yourself,
but to be fair I haven't actually bought anything, so I don't know exactly how the system works I have just seen what is in the shop

At least I'm loving the Economy Update content thus far. Started a new game with a self-imposed additional rule-challenge that you can't build any refineries (basic or full). You mine ores, sell it to the trade stations, and use the money to buy the stuff you need to build things. Sorta semi-rpg:ing a space miner trying to get by. It's different and thus far interesting. :steamhappy:

We need to remember, Not everyone loves the grind like we do.

Honestly I do not see the point of the Economy update for Single player. There is nothing to buy but med kits and power packs....... unless I am missing something? Seems more like a Multiplayer Auction house to me.

Yeah, having played it a while now it DOES seem more focused on MP
than SP. I play both quite a bit the economy works very well in MP but
is a little bit Meh in SP. Not useless by any means, just not as engaging
in SP. For me anyway. although i am sure there are many SP players who
like it regardless.

Gosh! I hope you are wrong. More and more games are catering to the multiplayer crowd and leaving the Single Player behind. It would be nice if someone finally created a game strictly for single player. This game plays fine in single player but now with this economy DLC, it seems to be going more toward multiplayer. I hope that trend will stop or single players will start leaving this game.

So far my only interaction with the Update has been with crafting a store. I can buy only Power packs and medkits from it. That's it. I can deposite credits that I loot from signal probes. It does have options to put things up for what i think is auction. but that is meaningless in single player. unless there is something I am missing. I see no NPC space stations nor NPC freighters that fly by. I have my enviroment set to safe. Not sure if thats a factor.

I play on Safe survival. Starting on the moon. I do sometimes see Red named ships in the great distance. I assume these are hostile due to the red name. but I have never had any interactions with them.

Buying resources are good for those times you can't find something like Uranium or some other thing you been looking days for. Just trade in something you have a lot of.. And then use the money to buy the ore you need.

Just think of it as a way to get something, if your having a hard time finding something. Or building something.

You're now definitely missing a lot...

It sounds like in your world settings you have now "economy=off". Check the advanced settings of your save game and switch that item on if you want NPC trading stations. You shouldn't need to start a new game.

The NPC trading stations spawn both on planets and in space. You can trade all kind of things from ore to components to buying ships and rovers, plus there are contract missions you can take (deliver packages, gather materials, escort traders, etc.). Also, there's a reputation mechanism with the different NPC factions. It definitely makes the world seem more alive, especially in single-player where you lack the interaction with other players.

Aye, For some stupid reason, The economy update is off by default, and needs to be turned on in the options, sounds like that is what is happening
