Help Please. How to detach from scaffolding
I just built a relatively small mobel base (large block base). i built it attached to a small local base so that it is just a few inches above the ground. if i grind one block it should settle gently onto its four wheels. but instead it goes flying into the air. what am i missing ?

Despite having wheels, it is considered a part of the base (station). You can try turning on the option "Unsupported Stations" in the World (SaveGame) Advanced Settings.

Better is to just move away from the base, place a block in the ground, build up 3 or 4 blocks (single column of blocks) to give clearance for the wheels, then start building. When finished, you can grind away the support column, then from the cockpit or flight seat, open the Control Panel of the vehicle and under the INFO tab, bottom right, select Convert to Ship

For a small grid vehicle, place a large grid block in the ground, then drop a small grid landing gear on top (sometimes takes a few tries to get it to settle right). Then just build up from the landing gear. When finished, grind away the landing gear and block and you have a vehicle.

To fix your case for now, enter a control panel on your mobile base, then go to the info panel. In the bottom right you will have "Convert to Ship." This will make your static grid into a dynamic grid, so it will be able to move. If it still does not drop, you might have a block stuck in the ground somewhere and you then need to drill out that block

Thanks. convert to ship didn't work. i had a piston drill on it and put it in the ground as far as i could before detatching and it buffered the movement enough to keep it from flying a hundred feet in the air. some damage but salvagable. i'll know better next time.
