Assembler question
So, I'm a bit new to SE and I'm beginning to have the assembler pull things from the containers and well, assemble things. It assembles components just fine. However, it doesn't do too well with big blocks. For example, I just tried to have the assembler craft a medical station for me. However, the assembler cannot hold all of the materials needed to craft it.. so whats the point of that even being an option then?

The only useable function I could imagine would be to have a conveyor pulling the components from the assembler to a container so I dont have to manually decide what goes into making the medical station. But then I still have to grab the components individually and bring them to the medical station im building so its really just the same thing on the back end.

the easiest thing to do is have assemblers make components, and then make a welding ship. The welding ship can hold a lot more components than your character, and can be filled with extra materials to weld anything you want to make. If you want to get even more advanced, you can design a printer and have huge amounts of components ready to make bigger ships quicker than by hand.

The assembler will push out components when it gets full so that won't be a problem. Of course, this needs that the assembler is connected to cargo containers and that there's space available.

You just answered your own question.

One of the little things I've done on occasion where there's a something with way too many components to be built is to run a conveyor line out and build a welder pointed at the spot. If I'm good, the same welder can work on multiple items in the same area. A welder (block) isn't necessarily faster working, but it doesn't have to make several trips, cutting down the total time/hassle. And since most of these large component items require a conveyor connection at some point anyways, it's not really extra effort to put the conveyor line out in the first place.

I usually use a script to automate assembling and disassembling components so that I've a target amount of each component for easy building. If I've less, the script auto-builds more, and if I've more than I've set (e.g. from scavenging, loot, etc.) it disassembles the extra amount. Quite a time saver and don't have to remember to do it myself.
