Larger Airtight Hangar Door
I'm building a carrier and I am looking to make a very large hangar door but I just can't figure out how to get the vanilla hangar doors to make a gap wider than 4 blocks. Does anyone know of a pattern that I'm missing or some trick? I really want to keep the ship vanilla so I'm not using the mod that does exactly what I am asking.

I fear you may be stuck with a 4 block limit. However, you may try to look up different carrier blueprints and see what other people have done to get around the limit.
You could also try making a door using pistons or rotors, but I've always avoided them like the plague. They've historically been devestatingly unstable. Not sure if that's still the case these days.

Ha ha ha I am still debating on whether or not I want to incorporate pistons/rotors into the build at all. And I have looked at many other people's builds and I have found that they either have the same problem as me or simply just dont use doors.
You can make a large door using merge blocks to attach it and armor slopes for seals. You'll also need a landing gear on a rotor swing-arm to move it. You get something that looks like this;

This is just the basic concept, though.

use two walls with the doors (vertical) and the bridge the gap with hangar doors on top and bottom (horizantly), even though youll be stuck with a 4 block verticality limit.

like this
x x x x x x x x x x x x
x x
x x
x x x x x x x x x x x x

search the workshop and/or Youtube for large hangar doors.

Doing this in vanilla and keeping it airtight is difficult and can have interesting results. Read as:things can explode randomly.

The trick is using merge blocks + hangar doors to make a seal. You'll have to make a door using regular blocks and hinged on a rotor(or several. You'll see what I mean when you search) You'll need to have the airtight hangar door blocks around the edges in a fashion where they will touch the sides of the opening of you door. A merge block set on both the door and the opening will make the two grids one when closed, and when the airtight hangar doors are also closed it will form a tight seal. I'll see if I can find an example real quick. Gimme a few.

Found the exact one I used awhile back and it worked great. I've heard mixed messages on this build in particular not working anymore, but I've used it in the past and it worked as intended. Search for other builds that share this same mechanic and you'll get plenty of inspiration to go on.

The trick with the really large doors is using a Merge Block to connect it to the station so that the Airtight Blast Doors will recognize it and seal with it. In the past, Merge Blocks have been...temperamental. Things may be different now though.

And now I wanna go see if I can work something out darn it lol
