You could also try making a door using pistons or rotors, but I've always avoided them like the plague. They've historically been devestatingly unstable. Not sure if that's still the case these days.
Ha ha ha I am still debating on whether or not I want to incorporate pistons/rotors into the build at all. And I have looked at many other people's builds and I have found that they either have the same problem as me or simply just dont use doors.

This is just the basic concept, though.
like this
x x
x x
okay those x's were bad but you get the jist
I see what you're saying but same issue and nice x's
Doing this in vanilla and keeping it airtight is difficult and can have interesting results. Read as:things can explode randomly.
The trick is using merge blocks + hangar doors to make a seal. You'll have to make a door using regular blocks and hinged on a rotor(or several. You'll see what I mean when you search) You'll need to have the airtight hangar door blocks around the edges in a fashion where they will touch the sides of the opening of you door. A merge block set on both the door and the opening will make the two grids one when closed, and when the airtight hangar doors are also closed it will form a tight seal. I'll see if I can find an example real quick. Gimme a few.
