From what i learned through building them:
- after you connect everything together, make sure to name every part for quick access (like Factory Assembler 1)
- if everything is connected right (make sure to connect them with your storage containers for materials), you should be able to open the base menu, click on the "production" tab and see "Assembler 1" on the left
- then you use the drop-down menu to distribute the work - select Assembler 1 and set it to build 100 steel plates, then select assembler 2 and set it to build 50 motors etc.; in this way, you can have multiple assemblers doing stuff at the same time
- be careful about the "construct/deconstruct" setting - if you accidentally set one of the assemblers to "deconstruct" and start building stuff, it will deconstruct already built stuff instead
- you can click on the "production" button (the cogwheel) on the GUI which will highlight only your refineries and assemblers; alternatively, you can write "asse" in the search window and it will only show your assemblers.
Important: if you didn't know yet, holding Ctrl/Shift while clicking on stuff you want to have built will make it rise in increments of 10/100, so shift-clicking on steel plates in the assembler window will que up 100 steel plates to be made.
Also, the naming convention you use can be important. If you want, you can rename the equipment 'Assembler - Plates' and load that with JUST Iron ingots and have it ONLY make Steel Plates and Interior Plates and so forth. The drawback to this is you might have 6 Assemblers built and only 1-2 working at a time.
You can also use Conveyor Sorters to move material around. Here is a video I did on that topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdIDsksCkeg&list=PLjh_yfsEOiU7wvmgDltzUhSlqaQUwBTKg&index=30
I will need to check these out. I just got into using scripts to align my solar arrays and I'm very pleased with them
