Way to troubleshoot low sim speed?
I have an issue with low sim speed what is the best way to track down the cause?

I have a i5 6600 @ 3.9Ghz with 32GB DDR4 and a nVidia 1060 but keep randomly getting a sim speed of below 0.4 when I run a game. I have tried removing all mods and saved games but randomly after a few exits/restarts the sim speed will drop down to 0.3-0.4 on a new game.
I can see most of the time the CPU usage is low (~<25%) and only on a single core but other time when I start the game it runs fine at a sim speed of 1.0.

Is there some way to see what is slowing my sim speed down?

I have also tried opening my saved games in SE toolbox and cleaning up floating objects which helps a little but still after a while end up with a low sim speed

My guess is that shadowplay or some other program is recording while you play, or your system drive is nearly full. Or your system might not have the best SSD boot drive.

But from the screenshot you can see the system usage is slow and the FPS at 60
Very little running in background, sometimes just chrome but normally close it before starting SE.
The system has a SSD for boot and the SE, I would expect if it was the SSD/HDD speed issue then sim speed would only drop on heavy disk usage which I am not seeing

Hi BadgerBadger, I will have a low simspeed if I add too much blocks in my world.

What is in your world?

Have you tried by changing the Graphic setting to a default one?

Is it the same in Lone survivor or Empty worlds?

EDIT :
More infos needed

What is the config? > You run the Dedicated server in the same computer you use to connect and play?

I have tried changing graphic settings but had no effect.
I thought it might have been something in my world so I deleted all my saved games and now less than a day later the issue is back (last world my sim speed was <0.2)
in my world I only have a single Mars base (single grid, 510 block) and a few ships above mars (<600 blocks total)
no scripts, no mods, nothing with wheels, world type is full system

and not running a dedicated server, just single player

Ok, I will double check on my side to be sure :riddle:

You could have a look at the LOG file to see if the game uses the GTX 1060 as videocontroler 1

Or >Verify in Display option from the first menu of SE, cause the game may use the integrated graphic if there is.

**

You could share the log file I will see if something is wrong in there.

*Steps on how to share the LOG file :

it can be found here:
C:\Users\{YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log

or simply paste this into your Explorer:
%appdata%\SpaceEngineers

-> Post log file to www.pastebin.com (No account needed) and share the link here on the forum

I just tried with no NPC (cargo ships, drones) and all good but I did not tried with NPCs

EDIT:

One of my Huge worlds with No Drones and Cargo ships

Log file below,

http://pastebin.com/CHMadsz1
For this I created a new world (creative) that only has a single grid in it, sim speed is about 0.6

I am using a skybox mod for this one, tested with and without the mod. no affect to sim speed.
my CPU usage is sitting at about 16~25% very little disk activity

Hi BadgerBadger, looks like the log file is missing the end in, I don't see any ERROR.

But I see Windows 7 and all Win7 users had to upgrade by installing the new ''Platform Update for Windows 7'', if not the game was not loading at all.

It's the DX update and probably the last for Win7 so make sure it's installed..

Microsoft link for the new DX:

You might take a look through the grids using Space Master. Alt-f10. Choose "Largest Grids" from the drop down. Then use "Next/Previous" to cycle through the grids in the world.

I don't think it is an Win7 thing as it was working fine a few days ago with a sim speed of 1.0 and the only thing I changed was closing/re-starting SE

is there an in game sim speed profiler in game or another way of identifying what is slowing things down? I was going to delete grids until the issue improved but starting a clean new world I have sim speeds issues.

What is getting me is that the I can see the resources (CPU) are available but not being used.

When sim speed was 1.0 CPU usage was 20-40% now sim speed drops and so does CPU usage.

I can't repro on my side so it's hard to know what is going on and your log is really not similar to mine like planet loading is not the same at all and I don't know why.

Windows 10 with the game installed on the C: driver = all good
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Bin64\SpaceEngineers.exe"

''C:\Users\Daniel\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.cfg''

I know some Win10 users had to install Steam and the game on the C: drive to fix loading problems, I know it's not the same bug and you are on Windows 7 but you may try.

I would like to find why but like I said all good for me, I'll comeback if I find something.

Now sim speed seems normal again on a save that was giving me 0.2
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=826046704

I changed the following and rebooted:
BOIS: enabled EIST
Windows: updated intel XTU

After a bit more playing around I have found a way to replicate the issue a few times,

if I reboot my machine the game runs fine, if I start the game just after windows starts or wait a few hours it runs fine.

If I exit and restart the game I get a slow sim speed.
Had SE running for the last 3 days without any issue at sim speed of 1.0 but as soon as I exited(crashed) and restarted SE I am down to 0.29x

On a side note, don't drop stone while in a cockpit traveling at speed. Your ship explodes.
