You could place the turrets in a way that they will only shoot the meteors that approach your construct. By placing walls around it.
Haven't tested it myself, read it somewhere in another guide or discussion..
edit1 - but 10 magazines per turret will last you several meteor storms at least.
edit 2- you will need multiple turrets with overlapping lines of fire, also recomend keeping range at 600 or less to reduce ammo wastage.
EDIT 1: I put a few turrets on my mobile base, so that it can get rid of meteors from any angle. I mean, sure, the turrets started shooting at my asteroid station until I could stop them from targeting it anymore, but it's nothing I can't repair.
EDIT 2: Now that I've repaired my asteroid station (thanks, mobile base), I decided to put turrets of its own on it. But for now, I had to make a supply run of sorts, because I was running low on Magnesium (and ammo), and the asteroid my station is built into doesn't have any. Good thing I was able to jump to an asteroid that does! (My mobile base has a jump drive, so it's more mobile than some mobile bases)
