Yea, cant be done now in survival for sure, didn't seen mod, but it works in creative as ctrl and shift button due placing blocks, where you can adjust length and heights of placed blocks. just remember to hold ctrl before you place desired block, keep lmb pushed, and for lines - hold ctrl and move cursor, for whole walls, same but with shift. i think it works on both right and left ones. set length/zone you want, depress lmb. Done.
Works on EVERY block, as far as they can "hook" on something and become part of a grid.
Im sure that someone could be easily do a mod, which allow this "control scheme" to be activated in survival world.
