Welding ships
Hey guys, just a quick question. I'm in survival and to be honest getting tired of having to build every block by hand and than weld it all by hand, especially large ship internals.

My question is, if I use a projector to display a blueprint of a ship, and than use a welding ship without placing any blocks by hand will the welding ship detect what blocks go where and place them?

If it will what would happen if... lets say there is a nuclear reactor in the middle surronded by armor blocks. The welder doesn't have enough to do the reactor, so it starts it but does not finish it and than proceeds to build the armor around it? Would I than have to go back in and finish the reactor by hand?

May be use Nanite Mod? It will build blocks instead of you (if there are resources in it)

no. if you place more of the stuff needed to make the reactor it will get finished as for the welders if your playing in single player get the twinwelders mod it will save you a lot of annoyance the vanilla welder have a very short range and same with the grinders. the stock welders and the stock grinders you have to touch a block to grind which a major pain when you need to take a ship apart so same advice for the grinders get a long range grinder.

also as wolf says the nanite factory mod is a really good one to get as well just be aware the nanite factory requires a lot to build

Okay so Nanite mod, and twin welders. Can you guys by chance tell me the author names so I can make sure I'm grabbing the right one?

Also does the nanite mod more or less auto build entire ships from projections as long as it has all the required materials?

Yes. But you must be careful that you have the componets necessary.

Here is a tutorial that will help you out. It's old but this part of the game has not changed.

Edit: One tactic I use is to strip blueprints down one layer at a time and make a separate blueprint for each layer. This will enable you to see that you do not leave a block unbuilt.

The only cavet about this method is when you hang gyros from the ceiling.

nanites are nice for automated construction, but oft I tend to build things by hand. It allows me to check the bp's for any errors that i missed when making the thing.

Okay guys, update. I got the nanite mod and my plan is to place blocks by hand but let them build it. Also double check often on the progress to make sure everything is correct!

the control panel will show ya blocks that are incomplete, this coupled with the show on hud option allows ya to pinpoint incompletes.

You can also use this feature before you start building for inventory management.

Project your ship then sit at a command station and switch back and forth from the projector to the assembler and your inventory.

Turn off the assembler.

Then let's say your ship requires 100 Light Armor blocks. Queue them up with Shift and Block repeat this process for every block listed.

Then spend a minute consolidating all the plates, construction components, etc into a single pile.

Then examine your inventory. If you need 9526 steel plates and you have 1500 in inventory then right click on the steel plates in the assembler's queue to delete them and requeue 8100.

Repeat this process with all your components.

Then you can look at the ore requirements and see if you have enough. If you are short on a particular ore (like silver) then move the components around so that the ones that need silver are last and turn on the assembler. REPEAT TURN IT ON and go gather some silver.

This way when you come back you have components to build with and you don't get 95% complete and have to run off to gather ore only to be 99% complete and have to do it a gain.
